Christine Edith Dikongu\u00e9 (BA \u201914) is a start-up founder, innovation consultant, technocrat, global speaker and board member whose work has supported 40 new start-ups in Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana and Kenya. She is also one of the youngest members of the board of directors at the United Nations Association in Canada. And she\u2019s just getting started.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christine Edith Dikongu\u00e9 (BA \u201914) grew up in Kenya, France, Cameroon, Mozambique, and Madagascar. But when it came time to choose a university, she chose Glendon at York, not only because of its bilingual campus, but also for its focus on public liberal arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUltimately, I was charmed by its diversity as I wanted to continue to have a window to the world while being in Toronto to pursue my post-secondary education,\u201d says Christine, who studied economics at Glendon. \u201cI arrived in Canada one month after the beginning of class, and I remember feeling very anxious to start school that late. The first people I met were Bastien Boulay (IBA \u201915) and Ece Deniz Aycaz (BA \u201914); they were instrumental in my first experience at York. They included me in their Francophone group. We ended up founding the Glendon Francophone Union together in 2012, with a mission to implement multiple cultural, social, and equity campaigns to represent Francophones in Ontario.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was during her time at Glendon that Christine applied to the Canadian Prime Minister program and was selected to be part of a three-year project to promote leadership opportunities for young Francophone women across Canada. She also served as the president and vice-president of various African and Francophone organizations, including the Glendon African Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy most memorable moment at York was participating in our student life and communities, which helped me integrate into the Canadian culture as an international student born in Cameroon,\u201d says Christine. From being elected as the president of Glendon African Network, I empowered African culture and students through professional development and awareness campaigns. I can say that I was fully engaged in my student life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Christine is a global speaker, consultant, community builder, and entrepreneur. She is the co-founder of AfricaHacks, which organizes Africa's largest tech competition \u2013 a virtual hackathon with thousands of youth, judges, and sponsors from around the world \u2013 and supports innovation across Africa. Her work has supported 40 new start-ups in Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe enable connectivity, upskilling, startups creation, ideation, and innovation,\u201d she says of AfricaHacks. \u201cWe want to be the platform that accelerates Africa's technological creativity. We currently drive millennial entrepreneurs' inclusion with over 20,000 users across 10 African countries by providing innovation as a service, but also products like e-learning tech courses, boot camps, mentorships, and innovation challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the global stage, Christine speaks about innovation, smart cities, entrepreneurship, and the African potential. In 2020, she was selected as a young leader to meet former U.S. President Barack Obama, an experience she says is an ongoing source of inspiration for her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is currently one of the youngest members of the board of directors at the United Nations Association in Canada, which is dedicated to elevating the principles of the UN Charter and to accomplishing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals through innovative programming by engaging youth in the Greater Toronto Area. She is also completing her master\u2019s degree in Management, Innovation & Entrepreneurship at the Smith School of Business at Queen's University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs an innovator and driver for social impact, I have imagined, redesigned, and built innovative programs, products, and safe spaces for youth, women, entrepreneurs, global banks and brands, government, and non-for-profits,\u201d says Christine. \u201cI continue to build communities and create opportunities and inclusion through impactful experiences that empower and advocate for youth, women, and minorities while leveraging technology as a tool for inclusion and community building.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christine has temporarily moved back to Cameroon to be close to her parents during the pandemic, and to start some new projects. She has been invited by organizations worldwide to share her expertise in building digital communities, women empowerment, and innovation. She sees her career progressing globally in the coming years, and wants to continue contributing to the conversation on digital innovation, entrepreneurship, and policies as tools to drive social impact and the betterment of communities and economic empowerment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To students just beginning their academic journeys, Christine\u2019s advice is to not be afraid to talk to other people, to say yes and seize opportunities, and to join clubs and student groups while at university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMake the most of volunteering as much as you can, which will help you select the change you want to pursue to become a changemaker.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elle est aussi l\u2019une des plus jeunes personnes du comit\u00e9 d\u2019administration de l\u2019Association canadienne pour les Nations Unies. Et elle ne fait que commencer.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christine Edith Dikongu\u00e9<\/a> (BA 2014) a pass\u00e9 son enfance au Kenya, en France, au Cameroun, au Mozambique et \u00e0 Madagascar. Mais quand le moment est venu de s\u00e9lectionner une universit\u00e9, elle a choisi le campus Glendon de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 York, non seulement \u00e0 cause de son campus bilingue, mais aussi pour sa concentration sur les arts lib\u00e9raux publics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab En fin de compte, j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9duite par la diversit\u00e9 du campus, car je voulais continuer \u00e0 avoir une fen\u00eatre sur le monde tout en poursuivant mes \u00e9tudes postsecondaires \u00e0 Toronto \u00bb, explique Christine, qui a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9conomie \u00e0 Glendon. \u00ab Quand je suis arriv\u00e9e au Canada, un mois apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9but des cours, je me souviens que ce retard me rendait tr\u00e8s anxieuse. Les premi\u00e8res personnes que j\u2019ai rencontr\u00e9es \u00e9taient Bastien Boulay (I.B.A. 2015) et Ece Deniz Aycaz (B.A. 2014); tous deux ont jou\u00e9 un grand r\u00f4le dans ma premi\u00e8re exp\u00e9rience \u00e0 York. Ils m\u2019ont int\u00e9gr\u00e9e \u00e0 leur groupe de francophones. En fin de compte, nous avons fond\u00e9 ensemble en 2012 l\u2019Union des francophones de Glendon, dont la mission \u00e9tait de mettre en \u0153uvre plusieurs campagnes culturelles, sociales et d\u2019\u00e9quit\u00e9 pour repr\u00e9senter les francophones de l\u2019Ontario. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u2019est durant son s\u00e9jour \u00e0 Glendon que Christine Dikongu\u00e9 a pos\u00e9 sa candidature au programme du premier ministre du Canada et a \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9e pour faire partie d\u2019un projet de trois ans visant \u00e0 promouvoir le leadership des jeunes femmes francophones dans tout le pays. Elle a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sidente et vice-pr\u00e9sidente de diverses organisations africaines et francophones, dont le Glendon African Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Mon souvenir le plus m\u00e9morable \u00e0 York est ma participation \u00e0 la vie \u00e9tudiante et aux communaut\u00e9s, qui m\u2019a aid\u00e9e \u00e0 m\u2019int\u00e9grer \u00e0 la culture canadienne en tant qu\u2019\u00e9tudiante internationale n\u00e9e au Cameroun, d\u00e9clare Christine Dikongu\u00e9. Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lue pr\u00e9sidente du Glendon African Network, j\u2019ai \u0153uvr\u00e9 \u00e0 la promotion de la culture africaine et des \u00e9tudiants africains en menant des campagnes de d\u00e9veloppement professionnel et de sensibilisation. Je peux dire que je me suis vraiment impliqu\u00e9e dans ma vie \u00e9tudiante. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aujourd\u2019hui, Christine Dikongu\u00e9 est oratrice internationale, consultante, b\u00e2tisseuse communautaire et entrepreneure. Elle est la co-fondatrice d\u2019AfricaHacks qui organise le plus grand concours technologique d\u2019Afrique, un marathon virtuel de programmation avec des milliers de jeunes, de juges et de commanditaires venus des quatre coins du monde, et soutient l\u2019innovation dans toute l\u2019Afrique. Christine a soutenu la cr\u00e9ation de 40 jeunes entreprises au Nig\u00e9ria, au Cameroun, en C\u00f4te-d\u2019Ivoire, au Ghana et au Kenya. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Nous favorisons la connectivit\u00e9, le d\u00e9veloppement des comp\u00e9tences, la cr\u00e9ation de jeunes entreprises, l\u2019id\u00e9ation et l\u2019innovation \u00bb, dit-elle \u00e0 propos d\u2019AfricaHacks. \u00ab Nous voulons \u00eatre la plateforme qui acc\u00e9l\u00e8re la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 technologique de l\u2019Afrique. Nous encourageons actuellement l\u2019inclusion des entrepreneurs du mill\u00e9naire aupr\u00e8s de plus de 20\u2009000 utilisateurs dans 10 pays africains en fournissant non seulement l\u2019innovation en tant que service, mais aussi des produits comme des cours de technologie en ligne, des formations intensives, des mentorats et des d\u00e9fis d\u2019innovation. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur la sc\u00e8ne internationale, Christine parle d\u2019innovation, de villes intelligentes, d\u2019entrepreneuriat et du potentiel africain. \u00c0 titre de jeune leader, elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9e pour rencontrer Barack Obama en 2020, une exp\u00e9rience qui est une source constante d\u2019inspiration pour elle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christine est actuellement l\u2019une des plus jeunes personnes du comit\u00e9 d\u2019administration de l\u2019Association canadienne pour les Nations Unies qui se consacre \u00e0 la promotion des principes de la Charte des Nations unies et \u00e0 la r\u00e9alisation des 17 objectifs de d\u00e9veloppement durable par le biais d\u2019une programmation innovante en impliquant les jeunes de la r\u00e9gion du Grand Toronto. Elle ach\u00e8ve \u00e9galement sa ma\u00eetrise en gestion, innovation et entrepreneuriat \u00e0 la Smith School of Business de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Queen\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab En tant qu\u2019innovatrice et vectrice d\u2019impact social, j\u2019ai imagin\u00e9, repens\u00e9 et construit des programmes, des produits et des espaces s\u00e9curis\u00e9s innovants pour les jeunes, les femmes, les entrepreneurs, les banques mondiales et les marques, les gouvernements et les organisations \u00e0 but non lucratif, explique-t-elle. Je continue \u00e0 b\u00e2tir des communaut\u00e9s, \u00e0 cr\u00e9er des possibilit\u00e9s et \u00e0 favoriser l\u2019inclusion par le biais d\u2019exp\u00e9riences marquantes qui responsabilisent et font la promotion des jeunes, des femmes et des minorit\u00e9s tout en mettant \u00e0 profit la technologie en tant qu\u2019outil d\u2019inclusion et de renforcement des communaut\u00e9s. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chrisine Dikongu\u00e9 est retourn\u00e9e temporairement au Cameroun pour \u00eatre proche de ses parents pendant la pand\u00e9mie et pour d\u00e9marrer de nouveaux projets. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 invit\u00e9e par des organisations du monde entier \u00e0 partager son expertise en mati\u00e8re de cr\u00e9ation de communaut\u00e9s num\u00e9riques, d\u2019autonomisation des femmes et d\u2019innovation. Elle voit sa carri\u00e8re progresser \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle internationale dans les ann\u00e9es \u00e0 venir et souhaite continuer \u00e0 contribuer \u00e0 la conversation sur l\u2019innovation num\u00e9rique, sur l\u2019esprit d\u2019entreprise et sur les politiques en tant qu\u2019outils d\u2019impact social, d\u2019am\u00e9lioration des communaut\u00e9s et d\u2019autonomie \u00e9conomique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christine Dikongu\u00e9 conseille aux \u00e9tudiants et \u00e9tudiantes qui entament leur parcours universitaire de ne pas avoir peur de parler aux autres, de dire oui, de saisir des occasions et de s\u2019inscrire \u00e0 des clubs et des groupes \u00e9tudiants pendant leurs \u00e9tudes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
