{"id":13767,"date":"2026-01-13T12:55:18","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T17:55:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/cityinstitute\/?post_type=mec-events&#038;p=13767"},"modified":"2026-01-13T12:55:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T17:55:18","slug":"the-urban-dimensions-of-wildfires-y-emerge-disaster-seminar-series","status":"publish","type":"mec-events","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/cityinstitute\/events\/the-urban-dimensions-of-wildfires-y-emerge-disaster-seminar-series\/","title":{"rendered":"The Urban Dimensions of Wildfires (Y-EMERGE Disaster Seminar Series)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This presentation will consider how contemporary urban theory may be used to gain some insight into the proliferation and\u00a0impacts\u00a0of wildfires.\u00a0\u00a0Particular attention will be on how the analysis of the \u201curban\u201d no longer simply involves an exclusive focus on the city core as traditionally\u00a0emphasized, but\u00a0rather involves\u00a0a consideration of the interdependencies between the city and the peripheral areas around the city \u2013 including suburban and exurban areas.\u00a0\u00a0In that light, I will briefly introduce and explain such perspectives as \u201cextended urbanization\u201d or \u201cplanetary urbanization\u201d and discuss the implications of such perspectives for understanding the politics and ecology of wildfires.<\/p>\n<p>This event is part of the Disaster Seminar Series hosted by Y-EMERGE.
