The Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research is accepting applications for the 2026 Seed Grants for Critical Social Science Perspectives in Global Health Research. York faculty members are eligible to apply as the principal investigator. Post-doctoral fellows are allowed to apply with a faculty member who will hold their cost centre.

The 2026 competition will award up to four seed grants valued up to $8,000 CAD each to initiate novel and innovative ideas that take a critical social science approach (including interdisciplinary approaches) to global health research. The grant aims to support new research and collective innovation by either individual scholars or teams that align with one of the three themes of the Dahdaleh Institute: planetary health; global health and humanitarianism; and global health foresighting.

The CPGH Seed Grant Program is designed to stimulate new global health research projects and encourage development of full grant proposals for Fall Tri-Council (e.g., SSHRC Insight or Partnership Development Grants) and other grants. Seed grant recipients will initiate their work and present their progress at next year’s Critical Social Science and Interdisciplinary Perspectives in Global Health Research Workshop. Applications are invited for the following:

1. Research seed grants
2. Convening new teams to foster collaborative projects
3. Development of a research grant (grant writing)

How to Apply

Please provide a summary of your proposed research and a budget. Your summary should be no more than 600 words and should address:

• the objectives of the study,
• the project plan, significance and relationship to one or more of the Dahdaleh Institute's research themes,
• the relationship to your existing research,
• your research plan and methods,
• any work already completed, or progress made to date,
• future publication and research mobilization plans.

Eligibility

Applicants are strongly encouraged to learn more about the three research themes of the Dahdaleh Institute at yorku.ca/dighr.

• Applicants must be York faculty members
• Applicants from across all disciplines at �첥��Ƶ are encouraged to apply; Seed Grant recipients will be expected to become DI members.
• Submissions are welcome from individuals and teams taking a collaborative approach.
• Matching funds from industry, non-profits, or other partners, while not necessary, are welcome.

The application deadline is Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Note 2: All applications will be reviewed by an independent committee. Make your proposal as clear as possible for an informed reader who may not know your field.
