
Dr. Pouya Rezai is a professional engineer in Ontario and was the founding mechanical engineering graduate program director at the Lassonde School of Engineering from 2018 to 2022. His research interest is in multi-phase flows within microfluidic and Lab-on-a-Chip (LoC) devices with the aim of expanding the fundamental knowledge of interactions between fluids and nano- to micro-scale physical, biological, and chemical contaminants of emerging concern for human health and environmental safety applications. He has published over 130 refereed journal and conference papers, 7 book chapters, and filed 5 patents (2 issued, 2 being commercialized with Sixth Wave Inc. and AfirmaCheck Inc.). Dr. Rezai is a fellow of the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering (CSME) and the recipient of the I.W. Smith Award from the CSME, the President’s Emerging Research Leadership Award from ¿ì²¥ÊÓÆµ, the Early Researcher Lassonde Innovation Award, and the Early Researcher Award from the government of Ontario. Dr. Rezai’s work has been featured frequently in articles and public media, including featured journal covers in Lab on a Chip, Colloids and Surface B, and Soft Matter journals. Dr. Rezai was the editor of the CSME Bulletin from 2017 to 2022. He is an editorial board member of the Nanotechnology for Environmental Engineering journal. From 2013 to 2022, Dr. Rezai has trained 61 students (24 graduate and postdocs) and co-raised approximately $6.5M ($1.75M as PI) in external research funding at ¿ì²¥ÊÓÆµ.
