Fitsum Hadgu Woldeyohannes is an experienced health economist and global health expert with a strong focus on economic evaluations, health financing, and provider payment reforms. His professional and academic journey has been dedicated to strengthening health systems and advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by generating evidence to inform sustainable and equitable health financing policies. With years of experience across Ethiopia, Uganda, and Canada, Fitsum brings a unique blend of expertise from both developing and developed contexts. He has led and contributed to major reform initiatives, including overseeing a health financing project in Ethiopia aimed at reforming provider payment systems in Ethiopia. Currently pursuing a PhD in Global Health at ¿ì²¥ÊÓÆµ in Canada, Fitsum’s doctoral research focuses on assessing equity considerations in strategic health purchasing reforms across Sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Timothy Bonney Oppong is an Epidemiologist and Public Health Professional with more than a decade of experience in research, academia, and community health. He holds a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Epidemiology and Health Statistics from Zhengzhou University, China, and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Luzon, Philippines.

His research focuses on health policy review, social and cultural determinants of health as evidence-based approaches for advancing health equity.

Previously, Dr. Oppong served as a Public Health Personnel with Maamobi General Hospital, Ghana (2014 – 2015) and as Lecturer and Co-Lead of the Research Directorate of the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences at Pentecost University, Ghana (2017 – 2025), where he taught courses in Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Promotion, and Research Methods. He coordinated faculty research initiatives, mentored and supervised both undergraduate and graduate students, and led studies addressing infection prevention, hypertension, and youth health behavior.

Beyond academia, Dr. Oppong is the Founder and Director of ROTI, a non-profit organization that provides free medical screening, immunizations, and mentorship to underprivileged children and youth in rural Ghana, reflecting his dedication to bridging research and practice through community-driven health programs.

Dr. Oppong is currently working with Dahdaleh Faculty Fellow, Dr. Godfred Boateng at the Global and Environmental Health Lab on projects describing the effects of environmental exposures and health outcomes in Ghana, Mexico and Canada.

Sumen Waraich is a global health and clinical research professional with experience in leading multidisciplinary projects focused on health systems innovation, pediatric care, and global health equity. Sumen is a current Medical Student at Toronto Metropolitan University and holds a Master’s in Global Health from Western University and a Postgraduate Certification in Clinical Research from Harvard University, where she developed expertise in research ethics and study design.

As a Research Assistant at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Sumen contributed to a multidisciplinary clinical research initiative on pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Her work focused on systematic data acquisition and validation of patient-reported outcomes within specialized sleep clinic settings. She collaborated closely with clinicians and research teams to enhance methodological rigor and ensure patient-centered approaches in pediatric health research.

Previously, Sumen worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Grandview Kids, where she developed essential study documents, clinical presentations, and process maps for the Extensive Needs Services evaluation. She facilitated the implementation of survey-based evaluation tools and cross-disciplinary collaboration within integrated healthcare teams. As a member of the Joint Research Ethics Board (JREB), she gained in-depth expertise in ethical governance, informed consent processes, and data-sharing frameworks—ensuring compliance with rigorous research standards.

At the Health Innovation Faculty at McMaster University, Sumen served as Research Lead for a study analyzing global integrated comprehensive care (ICC) models. This work published in the Elsevier Journal of Public Health, explored how ICC frameworks can enhance public health performance by comparing experiences from Canada and East Africa, offering cross-regional insights into collaborative care innovation, policy alignment, and systems integration. Her contributions reflect a deep commitment to advancing research that translates into scalable, equitable health solutions.

Milipaak Japiong is a committed nurse educator, researcher, and Ph.D. candidate in Nursing Science at ¿ì²¥ÊÓÆµ, Canada. His research interests focus on improving access to healthcare for patients with chronic illnesses, particularly end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), in low-resource settings such as Ghana. He is conducting a mixed-methods study exploring the barriers and facilitators to hemodialysis care among patients and healthcare providers in Ghana.

With over 15 years of experience in clinical and academic settings, Milipaak has a strong background in nursing practice, research, and education. He holds a Master of Science in Advanced Nursing Practice from the University of Cape Coast and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University for Development Studies, Ghana. His clinical career began at Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he rose from staff nurse to senior nursing officer, gaining hands-on experience in medical and surgical care.

Since 2016, he has been a faculty member at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ghana, where he currently serves as a lecturer. In addition to teaching, he has taken on key administrative roles, including Access Course Coordinator and Registration/Examination Officer, and actively mentors undergraduate students in research and evidence-based nursing practice.

Milipaak has received advanced training in mixed-method research, research ethics (TCPS 2: CORE), systematic reviews (JBI), and knowledge mobilization. His team has contributed to international nursing dialogue, including a presentation at the 2023 ICN Congress in Montreal. He is also scheduled to present his work at the 2025 ICN Congress in Helsinki on the social and healthcare service needs of patients undergoing hemodialysis in Ghana.

Passionate about health equity, health systems improvement, and global collaboration, Milipaak seeks to contribute to transformative health research. As a prospective Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research member, he brings a valuable Global South perspective, a deep understanding of nursing and community health systems, and a commitment to interdisciplinary and impact-driven research.

Dr. Donya Razavi (she/her) is a Sessional Assistant Professor in the School of Global Health with over 15 years of experience in global health, health policy, and health systems research. Her work focuses on advancing health equity and improving health care access and outcomes for equity-deserving populations.

She has conducted research on a broad range of topics, including health sector priority setting and resource allocation, community and stakeholder engagement in health system decision-making, primary health care and interprofessional collaboration, humanitarian health, and sexual and reproductive health.

Donya is passionate about bridging global health concepts with local health challenges. She brings her extensive practical experience into both the classroom and her research, drawing on her work within academia, NGOs, the Ontario health sector and communities to inform evidence-based teaching and policy-relevant research.

She has worked within Ontario’s health system, including with Ontario Health Teams, where her focus was on improving access to primary care for populations historically facing barriers—particularly Black and Indigenous communities, as well as individuals experiencing housing precarity, those identifying as 2SLGBTQ+, refugees, and people who use substances. She also led a newcomer engagement initiative exploring the experiences of recent immigrants with Ontario’s primary health care system, identifying barriers to access, and developing strategies to improve service delivery and support.

Internationally, Donya has worked with the Canadian Red Cross, supporting domestic and global programs, with a particular focus on menstrual hygiene management in humanitarian contexts such as South Sudan.

Donya holds a PhD in Health Policy from McMaster University, where her research examined public and vulnerable populations’ participation in health system priority setting in Uganda.

Joseph Mensah is a Professor of Geography at the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, ¿ì²¥ÊÓÆµ, and a former Associate Director of the Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on the Global Migration of African Peoples at ¿ì²¥ÊÓÆµ. Best known among his publications is his Black Canadians: History, Experience, and Social Conditions (Fernwood, 2002, with second edition in 2010). Ali Rezaei is a Research Assistant and Machine Learning Engineer at the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research focused on retrieval-augmented generation for the Safe Water Optimization Tool. Anna Yang is a Health Studies undergraduate student at ¿ì²¥ÊÓÆµ, pursuing a Specialized Honors degree in Health Policy, Management & Digital Health, focuses on addressing climate crisis and promoting global health equity. She is a part-time Social Media Coordinator for the BioCAM4 project at the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research under the supervision of Principal Investigator Prof. Idil Boran.

BioCAM4 addresses a critical global gap of the disconnect between climate action and biodiversity protection in the frameworks by developing methodologies to map, evaluate and scale Nature-Based Climate Actions (NBCAs). Working across East Africa and Central America, BioCAM4 engages both academics and policymakers to co-design comprehensive solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard ecosystems, and improve public health outcomes.

By supporting BioCAM4's knowledge mobilization and promoting BioCAM4’s mission to the public, she collaborates with the project manager and the broader team to develop and execute the project’s social media strategy, translating technical research into accessible, audience-specific content.

Dr. Sebastian Ken-Amoah is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, School of Medical Sciences, University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana. He also serves as a clinician-educator at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) and is a Fellow of the Ghana College of Surgeons (FGCS).

He began his career in the Ghana Health Service, serving as a Medical Officer and later a Senior Specialist for over a decade. During this period, he contributed significantly to maternal and reproductive healthcare. Upon transitioning to academia, he played a key role in establishing the postgraduate residency training programme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at CCTH to address the growing need for specialist care. He has consistently championed institutional capacity-building through clinical mentorship, medical education, and research supervision at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Dr. Ken-Amoah’s research interests span cervical cancer prevention, women’s health, and quality assurance in healthcare delivery. More recently, he has begun exploring global health governance and the impact of resource insecurity on vulnerable populations. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and participated in numerous collaborative research initiatives. He is a co-recipient of major grants, including the German Research Foundation (DFG) award under the African-German Scientific Collaboration in Public Health and the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant focused on innovative approaches to cervical cancer prevention in low-resource settings.

He has held leadership positions including Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at UCC and Lead Clinician on the Maternal Health sub-Business Management Committee at CCTH. He currently coordinates the Oncology and Palliative Care module at the School of Medical Sciences and remains actively engaged in training and research to enhance cervical cancer prevention and maternal health outcomes.

Dr. Ken-Amoah holds professional memberships in the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Ghana (SOGOG), the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS), and the World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons (WALS).
