Note: applicants must be eligible to participate in the Research @ York (RAY) program, see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfs.yorku.ca\/work-study-programs\/how-to-apply-for-ray-positions\">eligibility criteria<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hourly wage:<\/strong> $19 per hour<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hours per week:<\/strong> 11 hours per week<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Start date:<\/strong> April 29, 2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>End date:<\/strong> August 30, 2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Job description<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the co-supervision of Prof. James Orbinski and Prof. Harvey Skinner, the Wellness Impact Lab Research Assistant 1 (for up to 11 hours per week) will support the development of Wellness Impact Lab led by Dr. Harvey Skinner, PhD (Senior Fellow) and Susan Harris, MSW (Community Fellow). WIL's aim is to promote integrated health and wellness practices for personal growth and collective action. A key focus is strengthening our personal capacities for skillfully turning toward climate distress as a basis for fostering resiliency and initiatives. Our passion is \u2018healing ourselves, healing others, healing our world\u2019. Student 1 (health promotion, global health and research methods expertise) will focus on reviewing the literature and help design the materials for youth engagement and research dissemination activities. A major activity will be helping to organize and run \u2018Climate Cafes\u2019 with York students as well as evaluating the health impacts on youth and their actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>a) Climate Cafes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Help organize and run a pilot test Climate Caf\u00e9 with student leaders at Calumet College<\/li><li>Assist with the evaluation design and tools for assessing the process and the outcomes of the Climate Caf\u00e9s<\/li><li>Based on this pilot test, help with the design and promotion (e.g. social media) of a Climate Caf\u00e9 series with ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ students around climate distress and actions.<\/li><li>Help laisse with other academic centers and community organizations around Climate Cafes<\/li><li>Conduct a review of the published and grey literature about Climate Cafes: documenting their history, Canadian and international applications, evidence supporting their value for engagement around climate change and personal growth (resilience), critiques of this concept and applications, research gaps and future directions.<\/li><li>Help with the preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed academic journals and in general media (e.g. The Conversation)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>b) Other Activities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Mini-Retreat: participate in a review of the successes and challenges during the first year of the Wellness Impact Lab (WIL), and a \u2018brainstorming\u2019 SWOT (Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis about future priorities and actions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Qualifications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Current undergraduate York student. Applicants from diverse programs of study are encouraged. The Dahdaleh Institute welcomes applications from all qualified individuals, including, but not limited to women, persons with disabilities, visible minorities (racialized), Indigenous Peoples and persons of any gender identity and sexual orientation. ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ is committed to a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment.<\/li><li>Specific Qualifications:<ul><li>Strong interest in global health.<\/li><li>Demonstrated skills, experience, and familiarity with conducting literature reviews.<\/li><li>Research methods skills (quantitative and\/or qualitative and\/or integrative).<\/li><li>Analytic skills for understanding, sorting, and categorizing complex information.<\/li><li>Note-taking, journal-keeping, and filing skills.<\/li><li>Sound communication skills: professional written and interactive correspondence, public speaking and presentation. <\/li><li>Extensive social media and computer skills (word processing, email, database, spreadsheets, forms, and slides; facility with Office 365 Apps). WordPress editing skills are an asset. Social media communication skills are an asset.<\/li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills, including international and cross-cultural communication.
