Over several years, the research team has collected rich qualitative data (e.g., interviews, workshop materials, design artifacts) exploring lived experiences of pain, self-management practices, and communication challenges with clinicians and caregivers. Earlier phases of the project included exploratory tool development. The current phase aims to systematically analyze the existing data using thematic analysis and to refine and finalize a pain assessment tool informed by these findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The undergraduate student will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assist with qualitative data analysis using thematic analysis methods<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support data organization, coding, and synthesis of key themes related to pain experience and management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review and consolidate findings from prior tool development work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to the refinement and finalization of a pain assessment tool, including content structure and interaction concepts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assist with documentation of analysis decisions, design iterations, and research outputs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate in regular lab meetings and design discussions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Type of research experience the student(s) will receive:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The student will gain experience in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The student will gain research experience in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Qualitative research methods, with a focus on thematic analysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health and pain-related design research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Translating qualitative insights into practical design outcomes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research through design and user-centred design processes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working within an interdisciplinary research lab environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Type of training and support that will be provided to the student(s) in carrying out these research activities:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The student will receive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Training in thematic analysis and qualitative coding techniques<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mentorship and supervision from the faculty supervisor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guidance on ethical handling of sensitive health-related data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support in applying qualitative findings to tool and system design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regular feedback through lab meetings and one-on-one check-ins<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Qualifications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Background or interest in Design, Psychology, Health Studies, Digital Media, Human\u2013Computer Interaction, or a related field<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interest and experience in qualitative research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience designing and developing interactive interfaces (such as web and app) \u2013 it is expected that the deliverable is not just Figma but a functional prototype deployed and ready for testing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strong organizational skills and attention to detail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to work with sensitive data in a respectful and confidential manner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application materials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cover letter <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Resume<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please provide the name and contact information of two references<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have any questions, please email <a href=\"mailto:desais@yorku.ca\">Shital Desai<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Job ID: 135745 Job Title: Chronic Pain Management: Data Analysis and Tool Development RAY Application Deadline: Sunday, April 5, 2026 @ 11:59 p.m. ET Applications are only accepted through the Career Centre.
