Go to <a href=\"http:\/\/careers.yorku.ca\/online-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">careers.yorku.ca\/online-system\/<\/a>&nbsp;and search for the posting with the JobID.<\/p>\n<h3>Description<\/h3>\n<p>Under the supervision of Dr. James Orbinski, Director, the Humanitarian Engineering RAY student will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carry out a scoping review (web search\/survey) of existing educational, research, and training programs in the area of&nbsp;<em>Humanitarian Engineering <\/em>including definitions, program goals, curricula, research, accreditation, fees, and other relevant features.<\/li>\n<li>Develop a database of key organizations and potential informants working \u2028in the area of interest.<\/li>\n<li>Literature search and review on the concept of&nbsp;<em>Humanitarian Engineering <\/em>and produce an annotated bibliography.<\/li>\n<li>Develop a full and organized bibliographical compilation within a suitable reference document database, e.g., Mendeley.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare subjects for interviews and telephone surveys, and transcription of key informant interviews, to map out training needs and areas of interest with NGO\/humanitarian agency personnel.<\/li>\n<li>Support PIs with clerical and administrative duties relating to the development of a short course.<\/li>\n<li>Production of knowledge products including briefings, slide decks, and reports.<\/li>\n<li>Any other assigned activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Specific research activities the student will be engaged in<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Create a structured and annotated bibliographic review of existing literature;<\/li>\n<li>Create a digital research archive of PDFs of identified papers;<\/li>\n<li>Create a series of draft PowerPoint presentations that capture the core conceptual content.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Type of research experience the student will receive:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Critical thinking<\/li>\n<li>Conducting literature review<\/li>\n<li>Preparing presentations and written outputs of research<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Type of training and support that will be provided to the student in carrying out these research activities:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Methodological training on data analysis<\/li>\n<li>Subject matter training on global health and humanitarianism<\/li>\n<li>Day-to-day supervision by DIGHR Research Fellow<\/li>\n<li>Regular status meetings with your supervising full-time faculty and Dahdaleh Institute Director, Dr. James Orbinski<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Qualifications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Current undergraduate York student (we encourage applicants from diverse programs of study)<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated interest in global health<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated skills, experience, and familiarity with conducting literature reviews<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with people from a variety of backgrounds\/cultures<\/li>\n<li>Excellent communication skills: professional email\/phone correspondence, public speaking, and presentation proficiency<\/li>\n<li>Excellent computer skills (word processing, email, database management, spreadsheets)<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrates an eagerness to learn and take on initiative<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrates organizational and time management skills<\/li>\n<li>Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team with researchers, students, and staff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Job ID: 16845 Full Time Research Assistant Eligibility Requirements: sfs.yorku.ca\/work-study-programs $16\/per hour 30 hours\/week Start: May 11th End: August 28th Application Deadline: Sunday April 26th @11:59pm Applications are only accepted through the Career Centre.
