Overview

The Kent Haworth Archival Research Fellowship at ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ is designed to honour Kent MacLean Haworth (1946-2003) who was a tireless, internationally respected champion of archives and a superbly capable gatherer of Canadian material for the ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ Archives. This endowed fellowship will enable students to make use of archival holdings at ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ in aid of a doctoral dissertation project. This fellowship is available to full-time doctoral students in any discipline who are at the dissertation stage of their program and who wish to make use of the holdings of the Archives of ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ in aid of their research. The recipient need not be a ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ student. Conditions of the fellowship are as follows: 1. Research must be undertaken in the ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ Archives within 12 months of the awarding of the fellowship; 2. The Fellowship will be acknowledged in the appropriate section of the dissertation; 3. The Fellowship will be acknowledged in publications emanating from research accomplished through the Haworth Fellowship. Copies of these publications will be forwarded to the ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ Archivist; and 4. A report will be filed with the University Archivist within two months of the completion of the dissertation.

Value and Duration

• One award of up to $2,000
  • The value and number of award(s) in any given year will depend on the rate of distribution from the endowment fund and the number of recipients selected
• Non-renewable

Eligibility

• Full-time and part-time current doctoral student (the fellowship is also open to students outside ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ);
• Domestic and international students are both eligible;
• Selection criteria includes:
  • Research must be undertaken in the ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ Archives within 12 months of the awarding of the fellowship;
  • The Fellowship must be acknowledged in the appropriate section of the dissertation;
  • The Fellowship must be acknowledged in publications emanating from research accomplished through the Haworth Fellowship. Copies of these publications will be forwarded to the ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ Archivist, and;
  • A report will be filed with the University Archivist within two months of the completion of the dissertation.

Deadlines

• November 20, however applications are accepted throughout the year, should the funds be available. 
  
  

How to Apply

Students must apply through the system with the following information:

• The  applicant's statement section should include a brief description of the research proposal and what materials will be used in the York Archives, and a detailed budget of estimated expenditures and purpose; and
• Upload required material(s), merged into one PDF file, 1) an up-to-date CV, and 2) a copy of transcript for the most two recent years of study (an unofficial transcript or records from student account are acceptable)
