A new 快播视频-led study considers how the ways people move, sit and sleep are related to onset of dementia. With people living longer than ever before, dementia is becoming a common part of aging worldwide. Parmis Mirzadeh, a听Faculty of Health听doctoral candidate in kinesiology and health science, says 鈥淒ementia is a growing global public health challenge, with over 50 million people affected worldwide and numbers expected to rise substantially in the coming decades.鈥 Despite its prevalence, Mirzadeh explains, there is still no cure for the condition and existing treatments have only limited effects. As a result, researchers increasingly see prevention as a critical response; however, preventing a condition that develops slowly, often over decades, requires a better understanding of how routine, potentially changeable habits influence risk over the long term.

Researchers at York create first map of Canada's data centres /gradstudies/2026/04/20/canadas-data-centres/ Mon, 20 Apr 2026 13:18:03 +0000 /gradstudies/?p=69313

快播视频 researchers have produced the first comprehensive map of Canada鈥檚 data centre landscape, offering new insight into where facilities are, where they are being built and what their rapid growth could mean. 鈥淭here is very little systematic evidence to inform that discussion,鈥 says听Alexander Carlo, a postdoctoral researcher at Schulich. 鈥淎t a basic level, we do not have a clear picture of where data centres are located in Canada or where new ones are being developed.鈥

Students at 快播视频 captured early-morning images of NASA鈥檚 Artemis II Orion capsule from the Allan I. Carswell Observatory (AICO), contributing tracking data and a moving image as the spacecraft carried Canada鈥檚 first astronaut to fly around the moon. The observation was led by graduate student听Sunna Withers听and supported by听Nakul Sethuram Ramjee, an undergraduate student. Ramjee also completed the data reduction, animating the images to produce a short movie showing the spacecraft moving against background stars.

Can AI reduce bias in liver transplant waitlists? /gradstudies/2026/04/20/can-ai-reduce-bias/ Mon, 20 Apr 2026 13:06:47 +0000 /gradstudies/?p=69303

A new international study involving 快播视频 researcher expertise shows that AI could help make liver transplant decisions more consistent, transparent and evidence-based, especially when resources are limited. 鈥淟iver transplantation is a rare case in medicine where access to a life-saving treatment is limited by organ availability,鈥 explains co-senior author听Divya Sharma, assistant professor in the听Faculty of Science. 鈥淒ecisions about who is waitlisted are complex, and committee deliberations can be subject to unconscious bias听where a clinician's own background or identity may subtly influence their judgement,听even when national guidelines are in place.鈥

York study highlights potential of online trauma care groups /gradstudies/2026/04/08/potential-online-trauma-care/ Wed, 08 Apr 2026 13:43:51 +0000 /gradstudies/?p=69090

New research by 快播视频 doctoral candidate听Cassandra Harmsen听is shedding light on a form of trauma care that remains understudied and underused: online group therapy. For people who have experienced trauma, early support is critical for regulating distress and restoring a sense of safety. But Harmsen, a PhD candidate in York鈥檚 Clinical鈥慏evelopmental Psychology program and the听Trauma & Attachment听Lab, notes that individualized, in鈥憄erson therapy isn鈥檛 always accessible. Cost, distance, time constraints, mobility challenges and a shortage of trained clinicians can all stand in the way.

York nursing uses global learning to advance gender-affirming care /gradstudies/2026/04/07/gender-affirming-care/ Tue, 07 Apr 2026 13:37:30 +0000 /gradstudies/?p=69085

Research led by 快播视频's听Roya Haghiri-Vijeh听is embracing听Globally Networked Learning听(GNL) for听nursing collaboration on听2SLGBTQIA+ care. In 2023, a Canadian-wide review of undergraduate nursing programs found that of all 2SLGBTQIA+ topics, gender-affirming care was the least included in the curriculum. Haghiri-Vijehan, assistant professor in the听Faculty of Health, was not surprised given her own experience as an educator. The process behind that has now been published in a paper in听Nursing Education Today. Wong is a co-author along with York colleague听Karen A. Campbell听and York master鈥檚 student听Camille Alcalde.

快播视频 reveals new insights into limb loss /gradstudies/2026/04/07/insights-into-limb-loss/ Tue, 07 Apr 2026 13:29:06 +0000 /gradstudies/?p=69080

A new study led by 快播视频 researchers is shedding light on a little鈥憉nderstood experience reported by many people living with limb loss: phantom limb telescoping. New work by听Andrea Aternali, a doctoral researcher in the听Faculty of Health,听Heather Lumsden-Ruegg,听master鈥檚 researcher, and Department of Psychology Professor听Joel Katz, is advancing understanding of this phenomenon. "Despite decades of research on phantom limb phenomena, telescoping has been largely overlooked," says Aternali. For people with limb loss, phantom pain and discomfort in the remaining part of the body 鈥 sensations that seem to originate from a missing or altered limb 鈥 have long captured clinical and research attention.
