History MA student co-authors article on Algonquin dispossession in Ottawa Valley

Congratulations聽to 快播视频 History MA student Sam Huckerby on the publication of her first article, 鈥淟ogging and Settlement beyond the Rapids: Unmaking Algonquin Space in the Ottawa Valley, 1817-61,鈥 in the September 2025 issue of the Canadian Historical Review鈥擟anada鈥檚 pre-eminent historical journal. Co-authored with University of Saskatchewan History professor (and 快播视频 History PhD graduate) Jim Clifford, the article draws upon timber ship immigration and agricultural census data to show how the timber industry operated in conjunction with agricultural settlement to dispossess the Algonquin in the Ottawa Valley. Huckerby served as a researcher on the project for two years during her undergraduate studies in History at the University of Saskatchewan, gaining valuable skills in historical GIS mapping, database development, and scholarly writing. "Contributing to the history of the Kichi Z墨b墨 region is an immense honour,鈥 she noted, 鈥渁nd I'm incredibly grateful for the trust Dr. Clifford placed in my abilities to research, write, and map for this project."
