The CUPE 3903 Ph.D. Completion Fund supports eligible doctoral students in their final term of full-time study.

  1. Registered, full-time, fee-paying York graduate students with demonstrated financial need;
  2. Excluding students registered in programs with program-specific bursaries (generally, professional programs and programs affiliated with the Schulich School of Business鈥 unless they secure a CUPE 3903 assignment).
  3. In their final term of eligibility for full鈥搕ime status in a doctoral program, they have no scholarship or other form of funding (excluding bursaries) from or through the University in that term.

Eligible students are invited to apply during the following periods:

  • Fall term: September 1 to 30 (awards issued in October);
  • Winter term: January 1 to 31 (awards issued in February);
  • Summer term: May 1 to 31 (awards issued in June).

Allocated funds are posted to the student account of each successful applicant after adjudication in each term.

Extract from the Collective Agreement:
鈥淭he CUPE 3903 Ph.D. Completion Fund is to assist members outside the priority pool who have no funding in the last term of their doctoral studies. On the basis of need, funds will be made available to bargaining unit members registering for their final term of eligibility for full鈥搕ime status in a doctoral program, who have no scholarship or other form of funding, excluding bursaries) from or through the University in that term. The first priority is summer term funding for those bargaining unit members who held a full teaching assistantship in the previous fall/winter terms.

The bursary will be administered by a four-person committee consisting of two members selected by the Union, one full鈥搕ime faculty member selected by the Employer, and the Dean of Graduate Studies or designate, using procedures approved by the Labour/Management Committee.鈥 Search

Healthcare

For students with no Employment component in their funding package, Heathcare coverage will be provided via YUGSA. There is a charge associated with this coverage鈥擧ealthcare bursary of $1,000/academic year is provided

For students with Employment component in their funding package, Healthcare Benefit Coverage included through CUPE 3903鈥攖here is no charge to students

*Employment component of funding is based on CUPE 3903 Unit 1 Collective Agreement:

  • Salary鈥揅UPE 3903 Unit 1 TA position鈥攕alary will vary based on assignment type
  • Vacation Pay鈥揝tatutory vacation rate applies
  • Grant-in-Aid鈥揅UPE 3903 Unit 1 TA position鈥揋rant-in-Aid funding will vary based on assignment type

Note: Scholarships and 快播视频 Fellowship鈥擳he university contribution portion of awarded Scholarships will count towards the Fellowship鈥攅xception applies when awarded as an 'Entrance' scholarship, in the first three terms of study.
