A social and behavioural scientist, Dr Daftary\u2019s areas of research includes the social determinants of health, health care seeking and service delivery practices, and policy for infectious diseases, notably tuberculosis and HIV. She uses qualitative methods, mixed methods, implementation science and evaluation methods, and community based research strategies. Dr Daftary is especially well cited for her work on the structural drivers of stigma, gender inequities, research-driven advocacy, and efforts to centre policy decisions on patient needs and priorities, working with communities affected by TB and TB-HIV comorbidity in South Africa, India, Indonesia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Canada, and other global settings. Her research has been funded by CIHR, SSHRC, IDRC, US NIH, Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation and WHO.\u202fAt the School of Global Health, she engages students in her research enterprises, teaches Promoting Global Health (GH 3545), and on occasion the Integrated Practicum and Applied Capstone courses, and in the Las Nubes ¿ì²¥ÊÓÆµ Abroad program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Daftary is also a full member of the Graduate Program in Health at the School of Health Policy and Management, and Faculty Fellow at the Dahdaleh Institute of Global Health Research. She enjoys adjunct appointments at the University of Toronto's Dalla Lana School of Public Health and University of KwaZulu-Natal's Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA). She is a Section Editor for social and behavioural research at PLoS Global Public Health and serves on the academic editorial boards for Scientific Reports, BMC Global and Public Health, and PLoS One. Dr Daftary is nominated to the inaugural list of Canadian Women Leaders in Global Health. She is also founding director of SSHIFTB, or the Social Science &amp; Health Innovations For Tuberculosis Centre, a borderless network of scholars, learners and community\u202frepresentatives\u202fworking to address the social dimensions of TB.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Graduate supervision<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Daftary is open to supervising graduate students interested in global health, health policy, interdisciplinary research, and health equity in infectious diseases and related co-morbidities.
