International Development Studies 2017

I have three pieces of advice for new students. First, I would recommend students explore the list of exchange programs/ global internships York has to offer. They will give you an experience of a lifetime. This opportunity lets us students use the methods and theories we have learned in class and is also great experience to add to your resume. The exchange programs and internships will also enhance the understanding of challenges underdeveloped countries are currently facing, which is highly important for IDS students.

Second, I encourage new students to make use of their professors' office hours. Going to see your professors not only helps you better understand the course materials but also helps to build relationships with them and could open up career opportunities after you graduate.

Lastly, do the assigned readings for your classes. They are essential to help you understand your courses lectures and will help you immensely as you prepare for exams.
