This course is a unique opportunity to explore the diverse applications of anthropological knowledge and skills outside of traditional academic settings. Through a combination of seminar discussions, guest speaker presentations, and workshops, this course delves into the practical, real-world impact of anthropology in various professional fields. Drawing on case studies, hands-on exercises, and guest- speakers, this course will deepen students’ understanding of anthropology and its relevance in public, corporate, and private settings. A highlight of the course is the series of guest speaker presentations featuring anthropologists working in non-academic positions or whose work has had non-academic impact. Throughout the course, students will gain a firm understanding of anthropological expertise, and the insights, knowledge, and skills of anthropologists in fields such as film/television, media, global health, disability, finance, art, policy, environmental conservation, international development, human rights advocacy, and more. Facilitated by engaging dialogues and interactive sessions developed in collaboration with practicing anthropologists, students will have the opportunity to explore potential career trajectories and gain valuable insights into the transformative role of anthropology in addressing real-world challenges and fostering meaningful social change.
