Leading with LA&PS

Leading with LA&PS is a leadership development program offered by the LA&PS Colleges to help students build confidence and grow their leadership skills鈥攏o matter where they鈥檙e starting from. The Leading with LA&PS workshops are delivered in a variety of formats, including online sessions, live webinars, and occasional in-person events, giving participants flexible options to match their learning style and schedule. 

Leading with LA&PS helps you to explore your leadership style, strengthen communication and teamwork skills, and learn how to lead with empathy and resilience. It鈥檚 also a great way to connect with like-minded peers, get inspired, and feel more confident about getting involved on campus.

Workshops are organized into four key streams鈥擣oundations of Leadership, Communication & Collaboration, Equity & Inclusive Leadership, and Resilience & Personal Empowerment鈥攕o there鈥檚 something for everyone, whether you're just starting to explore leadership or looking to deepen specific skills.

Certificate of Completion

Whether you're just beginning to explore leadership or looking to build on what you already know, this program offers opportunities to learn new skills and strengthen existing ones. Workshops are offered throughout the year in flexible formats鈥攊ncluding online, live webinars, and occasional in-person sessions鈥攕o you can choose what works best for you. 

Students who complete any 4 workshops across the streams within 2 years will receive a Certificate of Completion, recognizing their commitment to personal and professional growth as a student leader.

FOUNDATIONS OF LEADERSHIP

This workshop invites you to reflect on what leadership means to you and where your ideas about leadership come from. Through guided activities, you will explore different perspectives, identify leadership qualities you already possess, and set goals for the skills you want to develop. 

The way we choose to lead is greatly influenced by our core values. They shape the things we prioritize as a leader, the way we behave as a leader and how we react in our environments. Considering its importance in our leadership, it鈥檚 important for you to reflect on your core values and take time to consider how it impacts their own philosophy of leadership and how it affects how you want to be lead. 

Effective team management is key to successful leadership. This workshop introduces practical strategies for leading teams, including how to communicate a shared vision, delegate tasks meaningfully, and handle conflict. You will learn how to support collaboration and keep teams motivated toward common goals.

COMMUNICATION & COLLABORATION

This workshop introduces the basics of effective communication and explores how we communicate in different settings. Students will learn key concepts and strategies to strengthen their communication skills and gain confidence in expressing themselves clearly and respectfully. 

Whether in school or at work, presentations are a common part of academic and professional life鈥攁nd they can feel intimidating. This online workshop will introduce practical strategies to help you build confidence, improve your presentation skills, and feel more prepared for your next speaking opportunity. 

In any team or organization, effective leadership means clearly communicating a vision, motivating others, delegating tasks with purpose, and managing conflict. This workshop introduces key strategies for leading teams successfully and helps you develop practical skills to support collaboration and goal setting in group environments.

EQUITY & INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP

In our diverse communities, we have the chance to learn from people with different backgrounds and perspectives. This introductory workshop on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) covers key definitions and foundational concepts to help you begin your EDI journey. You'll explore how to apply an EDI lens to your thinking and actions, both in-person and online, and reflect on what it means to be a thoughtful and effective ally.

RESILIENCE & PERSONAL EMPOWERMENT

Burnout to Boundaries explores how setting healthy boundaries can help prevent burnout and support your well-being as a student. In this workshop, you'll learn to recognize early signs of burnout, reflect on how boundaries build resilience, and identify practical steps to create more balance in your academic and personal life.   

Assert Yourself is all about finding your voice and using it with confidence. In this workshop, students will explore how assertiveness supports personal resilience and well-being. You'll learn practical strategies to speak up clearly and respectfully, advocate for yourself, and navigate challenging situations with confidence and clarity. 

Learn how to turn setbacks into opportunities for growth. This workshop will help you build resilience, embrace a growth mindset, and take ownership of your actions as you work toward future success. 

Strong leaders know how to lead with empathy and awareness. In this session, you鈥檒l explore the fundamentals of Emotional Intelligence (EI), understand its importance, and develop practical tools to demonstrate EI in your leadership journey.
