Volunteering can be a very rewarding experience, but we recognize it can sometimes be challenging getting involved in co-curricular activities while balancing school and life responsibilities! Peer Support Team

LA&PS Peer Support Team volunteers help first-year students set and achieve their goals, navigate the university (including wayfinding and connecting to key resources), build community, and discover the fun of campus life.

Our Peer Support Team volunteers play a vital role in supporting first year students. They are confident, engaged upper-year (2nd year+) LA&PS students who are eager to share their experiences and contribute to the program from late August through to early April.

As a Peer Support Team volunteer, you鈥檒l have a variety of opportunities to get involved and support first year students. This includes helping at orientation, hosting on-campus or virtual meetings, supporting social and community-building events in LA&PS Colleges, contributing to the LA&PS First Year Lunch Break program, assisting with first-year Social Science success programming, and guiding students through first year resources (including the First Year Handbook, YU Start and the First Year Experience eClass).

As a Peer Support Team volunteer, you will help first year LA&PS students: 

  • Set strong goals and work towards accomplishing them.
  • Navigate the campus and provide effective referrals to services and resources.
  • Learn academic, personal and professional skills for success.
  • Make friends, get involved, and build a community.
  • Feel more confident solving problems and asking for help.
  • Find the fun on campus. 
  • Peer Support Team volunteers are eligible for a Certificate of Participation and a Reference Letter from the Mclaughlin College Head upon successful completion of the program.
  • Peer Support Team volunteers complete comprehensive training to help build their communication and leadership skills and have access to ongoing professional development sessions throughout the year.
  • Past Peer Support Team volunteers report that their experience in the program has helped them develop their interpersonal and communication skills, feel more confident working with others, speaking in public and problem solving, build better awareness of York resources, and feel more connected to their community on campus.
  • Being a Peer Support Team volunteer is a great opportunity to make friends with other like-minded students and build your network at York.

Estimated Weekly Commitment: 3-5 hours per week.

College Crew Volunteer

As a College Crew Volunteer, you play a vital role in fostering a strong sense of community and inclusion within LA&PS Colleges and across 快播视频. You will actively support our students by engaging in campus outreach, supporting events (like orientations and professional events), and cultivating a nurturing environment at our Community Hub (VC 001). The LA&PS Community Hub serves as a space where students can discover resources, connect, and collaborate. 

Your participation as a College Crew Volunteer offers diverse opportunities to contribute and make a difference. You will assist with LA&PS Colleges' events, facilitate student engagement, provide guidance on accessing campus resources, and conduct outreach through tabling activities. 

Be part of a dynamic team that is committed to creating a supportive and enriching atmosphere for LA&PS students, helping them thrive during their academic journey. Join us in building a vibrant community that fosters growth, connection, and success. 

As a College Crew Volunteer, you will:

  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment at the Community Hub (VC 001), encouraging student collaboration and providing guidance to support services. 
  • Support the execution of events and professional events for LA&PS Colleges. 
  • Support daily operations such as set up, clean up and restocking supplies. 
  • Engage in outreach activities such as tabling to promote LA&PS Colleges events, opportunities and co-curricular activities. 
  • Guide students to on-campus services and resources. 
  • Build friendships, engage with the community, and cultivate a supportive environment. 
  • Enjoy and participate in campus activities, fostering a sense of fun and excitement in the university experience. 

Becoming a College Crew Volunteer is a rewarding opportunity that allows you to make a meaningful impact while gaining valuable skills and experiences:

  • At the end of the term, CCV members who contributed a minimum of 25 hours total can receive a recognition letter upon successful completion of the program in April. If a volunteer contributed more than 40 hours over the course of the year, CCV members can receive a more specialized recognition letter that includes more detailed information on their skills and achievements as a volunteer in the CCV program. 
  • College Crew Volunteers complete comprehensive training in August to help build their leadership skills and have access to ongoing professional development opportunities throughout the year. 
  • Gain valuable interpersonal and communication skills, increased confidence in public speaking, a deeper understanding of York's resources, and a heightened sense of connection to the LA&PS Colleges community. 
  • Connect with volunteers, staff, faculty, and students, expanding your network within the university. 
  • Gain volunteer experience that stands out on your resume/cover letter, demonstrating your commitment to community engagement and event planning. 

Estimated Weekly Commitment: 1- 5 hours per week.

Volunteer Content Creator

Are you passionate about storytelling, social media, and digital content creation? As a Volunteer Content Creator, you will play a key role in capturing and sharing the student experience at LA&PS Colleges through our Instagram. This role offers the opportunity to creatively showcase student life, events, and resources while building an engaging online community here at LA&PS. 

By developing compelling visuals, videos, and written content, you will help highlight the vibrant and supportive environment at LA&PS Colleges, ensuring students stay informed, connected, and engaged. Whether you enjoy photography, content creation, or graphic design, this role allows you to apply and develop your skills in a meaningful way.

As a Volunteer Content Creator, you will: 

  • Participate or be behind the scenes of filming engaging content for the LA&PS Colleges Instagram.
  • Create engaging posts, reels, and stories that highlight student life, resources, and opportunities.
  • Design visually appealing Instagram Posts whether they are relatable, trending, or informative.
  • Help grow our online community by promoting events, student services, and campus initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in social media marketing, content creation, and digital storytelling while contributing to student engagement at LA&PS Colleges. This includes: 

  • Receiving a certificate of recognition when you participate in one filming session during the academic year.
  • Connect with other volunteers, staff, and faculty, expanding your network within the university.
  • Gain valuable interpersonal and communication skills, increased confidence in content creation, a deeper understanding of university resources, and a heightened sense of connection to the LA&PS Colleges community.
  • Gain volunteer experience that stands out on your resume/cover letter, demonstrating your commitment to community engagement and communications.

Estimated Monthly Commitment: 2-4 hours per month (filming sessions happen as needed).

LA&PS Voices Blog Writer

Are you passionate about writing, storytelling, and sharing student experiences? As an LA&PS Voices Blog Writer, you will play a key role in creating compelling blog content that highlights the diverse perspectives, experiences, and opportunities within LA&PS Colleges. Through engaging articles, student spotlights, event recaps, and resource guides, you will help inform and inspire fellow students while fostering a sense of community. 

This role allows you to develop your writing skills, build a portfolio of published work, and contribute to a platform that amplifies student voices and experiences. Whether you enjoy creative storytelling, journalism, or informative writing, this opportunity will help you refine your craft while making a meaningful impact. 

As a LA&PS Voices Blog Writer, you will: 

  • Write blog posts on student experiences, campus events, and academic or career resources.
  • Conduct interviews with students, faculty, and alumni to share diverse perspectives.
  • Research and develop engaging content that resonates with the LA&PS student community.
  • Collaborate with the LA&PS team to ensure content aligns with the blog鈥檚 tone and mission.
  • Assist in promoting blog content through social media and other digital platforms.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in content writing, digital publishing, and storytelling while contributing to student engagement at LA&PS Colleges. This includes: 

  • Receiving a certificate of recognition when you submit two articles during the academic year.
  • Connect with other volunteers, staff, and faculty, expanding your network within the university.
  • Gain valuable interpersonal and communication skills, increased confidence in writing, a deeper understanding of working with a team to create published work, and a heightened sense of connection to the LA&PS Colleges community.
  • Gain volunteer experience that stands out on your resume/cover letter, demonstrating your commitment to community engagement and communications.

Estimated Yearly Commitment: 3-6 hours per semester.
