You will apply your skills and knowledge in the area of human rights and equity as you work with community organizations, government agencies, non-profit agencies or other relevant groups. In addition to exploring the relationship between human rights theory and praxis, topics examined in the course include advocacy, teamwork and community-building; professionalism, privacy and ethics; and cultural sensitivity, self-identification and intersectionality in the workplace. Placements will comprise 4 hours per week with the partner organization, for a total of 96 hours across two terms. These placements focus on career exploration, employability and professional skill development, with an emphasis on achieving specific course learning outcomes. Since placements are tied to a course, you earn academic credit. Placements are completed on a part-time basis to ensure you can balance your coursework and other commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading h5 text-uppercase text-primary\">What are the prerequisites to enroll in the HREQ placement course?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You must have completed 84 credits including HREQ 1010, 2030, 3010 and 3100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading h5 text-uppercase text-primary\">What kind of work can I complete during placement?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Placement opportunities will help you appreciate the opportunities and challenges that come with implementing human rights in practice. You will enhance your ability to work as part of a larger team on issues of rights, equity and social justice and develop skills related to advocacy and diplomacy. Through a series of critical reflections, you will explore your growth as human rights practitioners, while a final knowledge mobilization project will give you the opportunity to share aspects of your experience with other course members.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading h5 text-uppercase text-primary\">How many hours do I need to complete for placement?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Placements will comprise 4 hours per week with the partner organization, for a total of 192 hours.
