* As of Summer 2026

Students build confidence while discovering Francophone culture. This course does not count towards the degree requirements for students majoring or minoring in French Studies.
This course helps students to gain proficiency in French by discussing and applying the strategies and methods of language learning. While learning to relate experiences as well as future aspirations, students gain a technical grasp of French grammar through study of different tenses, agreement and placement of adjectives, and correct use of determiners. They compose brief texts and use simple connectors to underscore relationships between ideas. They also start to build their fluency, gaining confidence in their ability to understand spoken French through face-to-face interaction, and developing familiarity with the phonetic particularities of French.
