Diaspora is a term that describes a group of people who identify with a particular nationality, region, religion, ethnicity, culture, or language, but have, for various reasons, migrated to different parts of the world. People in diasporas may live distantly from each other or from a place they consider to be 'home', but may still consider themselves to be part of a collective, community, or culture. The course asks how diasporic writers and artists confront and critique ideas of culture. What new cultural formations emerge in diasporic artistic expressions in literature, music, and film?
