{"id":13392,"date":"2022-01-31T14:33:47","date_gmt":"2022-01-31T19:33:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/president\/?p=13392"},"modified":"2022-02-14T12:53:40","modified_gmt":"2022-02-14T17:53:40","slug":"black-history-month-at-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/president\/2022\/01\/31\/black-history-month-at-york\/","title":{"rendered":"Black History Month at York | Mois de l\u2019histoire des Noirs \u00e0 York"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>La version fran\u00e7aise suit la version anglaise.<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>February is Black History Month, an important opportunity to recognize the contributions, achievements, and histories of Black students, staff, faculty, course instructors, and alumni, and the many ways they enrich the University experience year-round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We want to thank members of the Black community for continuing to share their insights, experiences, and innovations in programming, curriculum, teaching, learning, and research, which not only enhance our academic and institutional outcomes, but help to reflect the diverse nature of our community\u2019s lived realities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While there is much to do over the next number of years to address systemic anti-Black racism, the University is committed to pursuing actions guided by <em>Addressing Anti-Black Racism: A Framework on Black Inclusion<\/em> and in ongoing consultation with Black members of our community. It is important that all community members share responsibility for identifying and implementing actions in their individual, unit, and Faculty\/Division work to address anti-Black racism and foster equitable and inclusive spaces both on our campuses and in our communities. We encourage everyone to broaden their understanding and awareness of Black heritage, cultures, and experiences by attending virtual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/about\/blackhistorymonth\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/about\/blackhistorymonth\/\">Black History Month events<\/a> taking place at York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All of us have a responsibility to reflect on our role as part of a system of education rooted in white supremacy, to combat anti-Black racism, and to address systems of oppression and discrimination \u2014 meaningful action that yields equity, inclusion, and societal transformation requires a concerted effort by everyone, 365 days a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We remain grateful for all opportunities to foster dialogue, awareness, and action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you. Il permet d\u2019honorer les multiples apports, r\u00e9alisations et histoires de la communaut\u00e9 \u00e9tudiante, du personnel, du corps professoral, du corps enseignant et des dipl\u00f4m\u00e9es et dipl\u00f4m\u00e9s noirs qui enrichissent l\u2019exp\u00e9rience universitaire tout au long de l\u2019ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous remercions les membres de la communaut\u00e9 noire qui ne cessent de partager leurs id\u00e9es, leurs exp\u00e9riences et leurs innovations en mati\u00e8re de programmation, de programmes d\u2019\u00e9tudes, d\u2019enseignement, d\u2019apprentissage et de recherche. Ils contribuent non seulement \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer nos r\u00e9sultats \u00e9ducatifs et institutionnels, mais aussi \u00e0 refl\u00e9ter la nature diverse des r\u00e9alit\u00e9s v\u00e9cues par la communaut\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bien qu\u2019il reste beaucoup \u00e0 faire au cours des prochaines ann\u00e9es pour lutter contre le racisme anti-Noirs syst\u00e9mique, l\u2019Universit\u00e9 s\u2019engage \u00e0 poursuivre les actions \u00e9nonc\u00e9es dans le document <em>Lutte contre le racisme anti-Noirs&nbsp;: un cadre d\u2019inclusion des personnes noires<\/em> ainsi que ses consultations men\u00e9es aupr\u00e8s des personnes noires de notre communaut\u00e9. Il est important que tous les membres de la communaut\u00e9 endossent la responsabilit\u00e9 de d\u00e9finir et de mettre en \u0153uvre des actions au niveau de leur travail, de leur unit\u00e9 et de leur facult\u00e9 ou division pour lutter contre le racisme anti-Noirs et pour favoriser des espaces \u00e9quitables et inclusifs sur nos campus et dans nos communaut\u00e9s. Nous vous encourageons tous et toutes \u00e0 \u00e9largir vos connaissances et votre prise de conscience de l\u2019h\u00e9ritage, des cultures et des exp\u00e9riences des Noirs en participant aux <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/about\/blackhistorymonth\/\">\u00e9v\u00e9nements virtuels du Mois de l\u2019histoire des Noirs<\/a> qui auront lieu \u00e0 York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il nous incombe de r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir au r\u00f4le que nous jouons dans un syst\u00e8me \u00e9ducatif ancr\u00e9 dans la supr\u00e9matie blanche, de combattre le racisme anti-Noirs et de nous attaquer aux syst\u00e8mes d\u2019oppression et de discrimination.
