Jennifer Foster, chair of the York Task Force on Sustainability Research, will be leading open forum discussions to launch the consultation process on the draft report of the task force.

The draft report of the Task Force on Sustainability Research highlights the suggestions and recommendations for the continued development of structures to support, integrate, cultivate and publicize York's sustainability research. Each session will include an overview and summary of the report/recommendations followed by an open discussion. York community members in attendance to ask questions and provide feedback on the draft report.

“An important part of this process is inviting members of the York community to provide feedback on the draft report, in preparation for the final report and recommendations,” said Foster. “Community feedback is essential to advancing York's sustainability research strategy, and we have planned a series of open forums where students, staff and faculty can share their feedback in person,” she added.

The open forums will be held on the following dates:

  • May 4: York student forum, from 12 to 1pm
  • May 8: York community forum, from 2 to 3:30pm
  • May 13: York community forum, from 2 to 3:30pm

These events will take place in Senate Chamber, 940N, Ross Building.

Alternatively members of the York community may provide written feedback by visiting the website. Feedback is required by May 15.

Vice-President Research & Innovation Robert Ჹé will share a first draft of York’s new Strategic Research Plan at an open forum being held on Feb. 12, from 2 to 4 pm in the Senate Chamber, N940 Ross Building.

During the open forum, Ჹé will report back to the community about the consultations to date. He will introduce a draft of the eventual plan and begin the process of soliciting feedback on the document.

“I am pleased to report back to the York community with respect to the Strategic Research Plan consultations to date that have broadly engaged the community and solicited an enthusiastic response.  This open forum will provide an opportunity for us to share a first draft based on these consultations and to launch this next phase of consultation with the community on the Plan,” said Ჹé.  “We look forward to an engaging discussion.”

Interested in learning more about the feedback from the York community with respect to the new Strategic Research Plan?  Want to learn more about the draft themes describing the scope of research at York?

Join Vice-President Research & Innovation Robert Ჹé for an open forum to learn more about the development of the University’s Strategic Research Plan 2013 – 2018.  During the Open Forum, Ჹé will be reporting back to the community about the feedback from the consultations to date, as well as initiating a discussion of draft themes describing the scope of research at York.

“I am pleased to report that we have engaged almost 1100 members of the York community in the Strategic Research Plan consultations to date.  This open forum will provide an opportunity for us to share some of the feedback that we have received and to seek new input from the community on the draft themes aiming to describe the scope of research at York,” said Ჹé.  “We will be seeking input and feedback from the York community in helping to refine the draft themes as we continue to work towards the development of the new Strategic Research Plan, which will shape the future of York research over the next five years.”

Vice-President Research & Innovation Robert Ჹé officially launched a series of community consultations regarding a new Strategic Research Plan for the University at an open forum held last Tuesday at the Keele campus.

The community consultations are an important part of a process to develop the plan. More than 150 members of the York community attended the open forum to discuss the plan that will articulate the priorities and vision for the future of York research over the next five years. The open forum provided an opportunity for community members to learn more about consultation process and the goals for the plan.

In addition, there was a lively, open and engaging discussion that saw participants share their thoughts and concerns.  

Among the comments offered by those present at the open forum was the aspiration that the new Strategic Research Plan would help improve York's research reputation. Participants articulated the need to develop a strategy that empowers researchers by providing them with appropriate opportunities to focus their attention on research. Many of those welcomed the transparency of the open consultation process, highlighted the need for inclusiveness in defining research areas and stressed the importance of equitable research support. 

“York's new Strategic Research Plan will help us achieve our vision of becoming a more recognized research intensive University – an ambition reflected in the White Paper and University Academic Plan,” said Ჹé.

He explained that the goals of the consultation process are to engage the York community in an open, collaborative and ongoing discussion about the University’s core research values to develop a plan that is meaningful to the community.

Ჹé was joined in the open forum by York President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri, Strategic Research Plan Facilitators Celia Haig-Brown, who is a professor in the Faculty of Education, and Gary Miller, and instructor in the MBA program at the Schulich School of Business and Schulich Executive Education Centre, along with members of the .

As part of the ongoing nature of the consultation process, York students, staff and faculty are invited to continue the discussion with Ჹé through upcoming workshops and community chats. The workshops will seek to examine York’s core values with respect to research, understand perceptions and prioritize commitments to the support of research.

Are you interested in having a say about the development of York’s new strategic research plan? 

Join Vice-President Research & Innovation Robert Ჹé for an open forum to launch the consultation process for the University’s Strategic Research Plan 2013 – 2018.

“The open forum will provide an opportunity for members of the York community to participate in the conversation as we work towards becoming a more recognized research-intensive university through the development of this new plan,” said Ჹé.

The mandate of the Strategic Research Plan Advisory Committee is to advise the vice-president research & innovation on all aspects of the consultation with the York Community and in the development of the plan, which will articulate a vision and aspiration for York research over the next five years. The goal is to provide regular updates to the community on the progress of the consultation and development of the plan working towards a completed plan in the spring of 2013.
