The Faculty provides advising for all new&nbsp;science students through&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/science.yorku.ca\/current-students\/support-services\/science-academic-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Science Academic Services<\/a>.\u200b<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>Continuing &amp; Transfer Students<\/strong>\u200b<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Chemistry provides two online tools for students in Chemistry and&nbsp;Biochemistry as starting points to orient them to either the information they need, the&nbsp;online resources they need, or contact with the UPD for email or in-person advice.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students in certain situations can most often get the help that they need using the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/pgpotvin\/public\/SelfAdvising\/MyAcademicReport\/MyAcademicReport.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Progress&nbsp;Monitor<\/a>&nbsp;tool:\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>students in Chemistry and Biochemistry degree programs preparing to graduate\u200b<\/li><li>students thinking of changing their degree program can see how well their courses&nbsp;would fit\u200b<\/li><li>students looking to improve their&nbsp;gpa&nbsp;can test various&nbsp;gpa&nbsp;scenarios as to how best to do&nbsp;this when considering repeating courses or adding new courses\u200b<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Going through the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/pgpotvin\/public\/SelfAdvising\/PersonalAdvisor\/Personal-Advisor.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Personal Advisor<\/a>&nbsp;tool will either address the situation directly or, as&nbsp;appropriate, will direct you to the UPD by email or by appointment. The kinds of situation&nbsp;can involve:\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>students experiencing certain difficulties with enrollments\u200b<\/li><li>students with complaints or difficulties in getting their needs addressed\u200b<\/li><li>students considering taking courses elsewhere\u200b<\/li><li>students transferring from other institutions or from other degree programs (the&nbsp;online&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/futurestudents.yorku.ca\/transfer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">request to transfer<\/a>&nbsp;to Chemistry or Biochemistry should already have been filed)\u200b<\/li><li>students on exchange programs from abroad or looking to go abroad on an exchange\u200b<\/li><li>students needing help in choosing their degree program or in selecting courses\u200b<\/li><li>students with special needs or circumstances\u200b<\/li><li>students in some academic trouble\u200b<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Book an Appointment<\/strong>\u200b<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp;If you want to talk about your academic progress, academic planning,&nbsp;changing degrees or course selection, please book a 30-minute Academic&nbsp;Advising appointment, then please&nbsp;also generate an Academic Progress&nbsp;Report&nbsp;using the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/pgpotvin\/public\/SelfAdvising\/MyAcademicReport\/MyAcademicReport.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Progress Monitor<\/a>&nbsp;and make sure to save it with a copy to the&nbsp;UPD (the copy will reach the UPD by email). This will make it very much easier&nbsp;and faster to get you the answer that you need.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp;You should only book one appointment at a time. If you book more than&nbsp;one, the earlier one(s)&nbsp;will be cancelled&nbsp;to make room for other students.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:&nbsp;<\/strong>Please note that all advising sessions will be over Zoom for the duration of&nbsp;the COVID-19 pandemic. Those with appointments will be sent a link by email&nbsp;shortly before their appointment.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Academic Advising<\/strong>\u00a0appointments are about 30 minutes long. If more time is\u00a0needed, we can go into overtime.\u200b <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To <a href=\"https:\/\/outlook.office365.com\/owa\/calendar\/AdvisingforChemistryandBiochemistry@yuoffice.yorku.ca\/bookings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Book an appointment<\/a>; first select an advisor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on one of the highlighted days, choose a time slot from the list that appears on the right, fill\u00a0in some required details, confirm and you're done. You'll get an email confirming\u00a0your appointment, and another one reminding you a few hours ahead of your\u00a0appointment. Both email messages give you the opportunity to cancel with a\u00a0simple click.
