{"id":3453,"date":"2023-12-04T08:57:04","date_gmt":"2023-12-04T13:57:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/science\/profiles\/?post_type=faculty&#038;p=3453"},"modified":"2023-12-04T08:57:06","modified_gmt":"2023-12-04T13:57:06","slug":"miles-couchman","status":"publish","type":"faculty","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/science\/profiles\/faculty\/miles-couchman\/","title":{"rendered":"Miles Couchman"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Miles Couchman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, specializing in Applied Mathematics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to joining York, he received his undergraduate degree in Physics from McMaster University and his PhD in Applied Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, followed by postdoctoral work in the Department of Applied Mathematics &amp; Theoretical Physics at the University of Cambridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research Interests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>His research is currently focused in the realm of fluid mechanics, where he has considered a variety of topics from pilot-wave hydrodynamics to geophysical turbulence, using a combination of experimental, computational and theoretical approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, he has been exploring how machine learning and high-performance computing techniques may be used to gain insight into turbulent mixing processes within the ocean, a key area of uncertainty in climate modelling.
