And no challenge is more pressing, here in Canada and around the world, than climate change. \u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of our commitment to\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/about.yorku.ca\/times-higher-education-ranking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">build<\/a>\u202fa more socially, economically and environmentally sustainable world, together with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (<a href=\"https:\/\/unitar.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UNITAR<\/a>),&nbsp;York&nbsp;announced in June 2021&nbsp;that it&nbsp;would be home to Canada\u2019s first\u202fCentre International de Formation des&nbsp;Acteurs&nbsp;Locaux<em>\u202f<\/em>(CIFAL).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CIFAL Centres provide innovative training around the world and serve as hubs for the exchange of knowledge among government officials, the private sector, academia and society.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This new partnership with UNITAR recognizes York\u2019s leadership in advancing fundamental and applied research,&nbsp;innovation&nbsp;and ability to work across traditional boundaries in pioneering new approaches to meet society\u2019s most urgent demands.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CIFAL York will be uniquely positioned to help achieve the\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/development\/desa\/disabilities\/envision2030.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UN\u2019s Sustainable Development Goals<\/a>\u202faround emergency and disaster management, diversity and inclusion, economic development, health and entrepreneurship. CIFAL York will be a catalyst for positive change and extend York\u2019s global reach even further.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe world is facing complex global problems \u2013 from the climate crisis to inequality to rapid technological change to the pandemic \u2013 that call for collaboration across sectors and across countries to solve,\u201d says\u202f<strong>Rhonda&nbsp;Lenton<\/strong>, York\u2019s&nbsp;president&nbsp;and vice-chancellor. \u201cThe creation of this CIFAL Centre, in partnership with UNITAR, will enable us to bring leaders from governments, not-for-profits and industry together with researchers and educators to share experiences and expertise, and to train new generations of global leaders.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c快播视频\u2019s outsized reputation made it an obvious choice when the United Nations, through UNITAR, started thinking of partnering with an academic institution in Canada to share knowledge and best practices,\u201d said Nikhil Seth, UN assistant secretary-general and executive director of UNITAR. \u201cI count academic institutions as one of UNITAR\u2019s most indispensable allies, without whom we cannot hope to achieve the 2030 Agenda.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>York also&nbsp;appointed\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/news.yorku.ca\/experts\/?name_or_keyword=asgary&amp;research_area=&amp;submit=Search+the+Guide&amp;search=Y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Professor\u202f<strong>Ali&nbsp;Asgary<\/strong><\/a>\u202fas the new director of CIFAL York.
