Osgoode Hall Law School grad Gregory Tardi (DJur \u201910), senior parliamentary counsel in the Office of the Law Clerk and parliamentary counsel in the House of Commons, will give a lecture titled \u201cPatterns and Scenarios in Political Law\u201d at York on Thursday, Nov. 11.<\/p>\n
The event, to be held\u00a0from noon to 2pm in the Verney Room, S674 Ross Building, is sponsored by the York Centre for Public Policy & Law along with the Department of Political Science in York\u2019s Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies.<\/p>\n
Right: Gregory Tardi<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\u201cPatterns and Scenarios in Political Law\u201d will consider the relationship of law and politics as one of the foundations of democratic rule of law. It will observe that, while there is much commentary about individual instances in which government or states are alleged to be in breach of the rule of law, there is little effort to understand the general patterns of behaviour of governments and states in this regard. Tardi will examine such patterns in an effort to help us better understand current public life.<\/p>\n
Tardi provides advice on constitutional law, and on the law and custom of Parliament to the Speaker of the House of Commons, to the Board of Internal Economy, to all members of the House of Commons and to the House administration.<\/p>\n
Tardi currently teaches in the Faculty of Law at McGill University and has taught courses at Carleton University in Ottawa as well as at the University of British Columbia. He has lectured throughout Canada, the US and internationally. His books include The Legal Framework of Government: A Canadian Guide<\/em>, The Law of Democratic Governing; Governing \u2013 Principles <\/em>and The Law of Democratic Governing \u2013 Jurisprudence<\/em>. Tardi has also published several dozen book chapters and journal articles and recently received his juris doctorate from York\u2019s Osgoode Hall Law School.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
