{"id":16426,"date":"2011-02-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-10T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yfiledev.uit.yorku.ca\/2011\/02\/10\/potential-transit-strike-would-affect-some-commuters-to-york\/"},"modified":"2025-04-01T15:09:36","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T19:09:36","slug":"potential-transit-strike-would-affect-some-commuters-to-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2011\/02\/10\/potential-transit-strike-would-affect-some-commuters-to-york\/","title":{"rendered":"Potential transit strike would affect some commuters to York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The union representing drivers&nbsp;who operate many of&nbsp;the routes offered by&nbsp;York Region Transit (YRT)&nbsp;will be in&nbsp;a legal strike&nbsp;position as of&nbsp;Monday, Feb.&nbsp;14 at 12:01am.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The following&nbsp;transit routes bringing riders&nbsp;to York's Keele campus&nbsp;would be&nbsp;affected&nbsp;by strike action: <\/p>\n<p>YRT Route 3 - Thornhill\/快播视频 <br \/>\nYRT Route 10 - Vaughan <br \/>\nYRT Route 20 - Jane\/Concord <br \/>\nYRT Route 77 - Highway 7&nbsp;(This route&nbsp;does not&nbsp;come onto the Keele campus, but it does provide&nbsp;service for a&nbsp;number of York students, faculty and staff.) <\/p>\n<p>For a full list of all affected routes, visit the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/yrt.ca\/news\/strike.asp\" rel=\"noopener\">YRT<\/a> website.<\/p>\n<p>This bargaining does not affect York Region's Viva buses as they are operated by a different contractor.<\/p>\n<p>Faculty, staff and students who use&nbsp;YRT routes to commute to the Keele campus are encouraged to seek alternative means of transportation in the event of a strike, such as carpooling, car sharing, cycling, driving to the University, taking a taxi or using&nbsp;alternate transit, including&nbsp;GO Transit, York Region Transit Viva Service and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). <\/p>\n<p><strong>The following&nbsp;information provides&nbsp;some alternatives available to YRT riders in the event of a&nbsp; strike:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Transit alternatives, where available, could be used to commute to the Keele campus. These include&nbsp;the TTC's north\/south routes that extend into York Region; GO Buses or Train service; and Brampton Transit's Z&uuml;m Service.&nbsp;\n    <\/li>\n<li>Smart Commute &ndash; North Toronto, Vaughan has a free carpool ride-matching service available to all community members.&nbsp;The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.carpoolzone.ca\" rel=\"noopener\">Carpool Zone<\/a> can provide&nbsp;community members with carpooling options.&nbsp;\n    <\/li>\n<li>Daily parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in the visitor parking lots on campus.
