{"id":17731,"date":"2011-10-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-10-12T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yfiledev.uit.yorku.ca\/2011\/10\/12\/workshop-explores-shared-synergies-in-science-engineering\/"},"modified":"2025-04-02T08:48:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T12:48:08","slug":"workshop-explores-shared-synergies-in-science-engineering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2011\/10\/12\/workshop-explores-shared-synergies-in-science-engineering\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshop explores shared synergies in science &amp; engineering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leading researchers, industry representatives and academics in science and engineering from Canada and India are gathering today at York's Keele campus\u00a0as part of a two-day\u00a0Canada-India Frontiers workshop, which\u00a0will\u00a0explore new developments\u00a0in science and engineering<\/p>\n<p>The first event of its kind,\u00a0the\u00a0workshop,\u00a0which began yesterday and continues\u00a0today,\u00a0offers a forum for participants to share ideas, resources and\u00a0technologies, and\u00a0engage in discussions about current and future topics of importance to science and engineering in Canada and India.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the workshop are\u00a0Vijay Saraswat, scientific adviser to India's defence minister; William Selvamurthy, chief controller of\u00a0research &amp; development at India's Defence Research &amp; <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/photos\/20111012\/\/KozinskiJanusz2.jpg\" alt=\"Janusz Kozinski\" width=\"250\" height=\"315\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"8\" vspace=\"8\" \/>Development Organization (DRDO); David Kendall, the general director of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and Professor\u00a0Janusz Kozinski, dean of York\u2019s Faculty of Science &amp; Engineering.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Right: Janusz Kozinski<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over the course of the event, participants will be\u00a0exploring\u00a0shared synergies, knowledge and advancements in\u00a0areas such as\u00a0space exploration,\u00a0nanosatellite technology,\u00a0space robotics and disease modelling research. They will also be examining how to collaborate on a new project known as the\u00a0Early Warning and Advance Response Network\u00a0(e-WARN). Spearheaded by Kozinski, e-WARN\u00a0is intended to detect, quantify and initiate an effective response to chemical and biological\u00a0threats\u00a0released in public buildings. Researchers from both countries will discuss and plan how to collaborate on the e-WARN project.<\/p>\n<p>Attending the workshop from India\u00a0are representatives from the\u00a0DRDO, Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER), the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, the University of Calcutta and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
