York graduate students and research fellows are welcome to apply with the support of a York faculty member as the principal investigator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deadline for submissions is <strong>Sunday, April 3<\/strong> at 11:59 p.m. Awards will be announced on April 29. Applicants are strongly encouraged to learn more about the three research themes of the Dahdaleh Institute at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/dighr\/\" target=\"_blank\">yorku.ca\/dighr<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants and the broader York community are invited to attend the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/dighr\/event\/critical-social-science-perspectives-in-global-health\/\" target=\"_blank\">2022 Workshop on Critical Social Science Perspectives in Global Health<\/a> on <strong>March 8<\/strong> and <strong>9<\/strong> to engage with other York researchers in this area &nbsp;to exchange insights and consider opportunities for collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Critical Perspectives in Global Health (CPGH) program supports a critical social science approach to global public health. While the definition of what constitutes critical research is quite broad, it usually involves the use of critical theory with social justice aims. Critical social science perspectives in global health are transdisciplinary, participatory, experimental, or experiential analyses that actively seek greater effectiveness, equity and excellence in global health. This means engaging directly with global public health actors, structures and systems to transform global public health while remaining committed to social science theory and methodology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/James-Orbinski.jpg\" alt=\"James Orbinski\" class=\"wp-image-272303\" width=\"263\" height=\"263\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2020\/02\/James-Orbinski.jpg 350w, https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2020\/02\/James-Orbinski-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><figcaption>James Orbinski<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. <strong>James Orbinski<\/strong>, director of the Dahdaleh Institute, says \u201cthe scale of the COVID-19 pandemic, the vulnerabilities it has revealed, and the complexities of the global public health response make it clear that we need to foster this kind of research to shape a more effective and socially just global health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CPGH Seed Grant program is intended to foster more research in this area and to encourage faculty to develop grant proposals for fall Tri-Council and other funders\u2019 grant submission deadlines.
