This new fund strengthens the University\u2019s ongoing commitment and long-term support in advancing equity and inclusion and removing systemic barriers that have hindered the success of Black scholars for so long.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fund consists of two streams: the Open Research Stream with three awards of $25,000 each for a duration of 24 months; and the Collective Research Stream, with three awards of $25,000 each aimed at Black early-career researchers who plan to collaborate with a Black scholar on a 24-month research project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Applications were accepted through March, and the six recipients are:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oyemolad Osibodu<\/strong>, Faculty of Education (Open Research Stream)<br>Research project: \u201cEnvisioning Diasporic Mathematics Literacies with Black Youth\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gerald Bareebe<\/strong>, Faculty of Liberal Arts &amp; Professional Studies (Open Research Stream)<br>Research project: \u201cWhy Peace Fails to Endure: Explaining the Recurrence of Civil Wars in East Africa\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ruth Murambadoro<\/strong>, Faculty of Liberal Arts &amp; Professional Studies (Open Research Stream)<br>Research project: \u201cWomen\u2019s Politics in Zimbabwe: Aftermath of the 2013 Constitution\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Celia Romulus<\/strong>, International Studies, Glendon (Collective Research Stream)<br>Research project: \u201cDecolonizing knowledge and promoting Afrofeminist narratives\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jude Kong<\/strong>, Faculty of Science (Collective Research Stream)<br>Research project: \u201cModelling resilience: Post-pandemic Recovery, participatory governance, data gaps, equitable institutions, and human interdependence\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Solomon Boakye-Yiadom<\/strong>, Lassonde School of Engineering (Collective Research Stream)<br>Research project: \u201cMachine Learning and Laser Powder Bed Fusion Technologies for Materials Discovery\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBlack scholarship is vital to advancing knowledge creation that will have a positive impact on the communities we serve,\u201d says <strong>Sheila Cote-Meek<\/strong>, vice-president equity, people and culture. \u201cThe York Black Research Seed Fund is one step forward in addressing the challenges that Black scholars face in advancing their careers and will set in motion a future that promotes excellence and inclusiveness in research.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the York Black Research Seed Fund, the University has committed $100,000 to back the research activities at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/cerlac\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/cerlac\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean<\/a> (CERLAC) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/research\/tubman\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/research\/tubman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on Africa and its Diasporas \u2013 two organized research
