{"id":323869,"date":"2022-11-04T15:20:48","date_gmt":"2022-11-04T20:20:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/?p=323869"},"modified":"2025-04-02T12:22:18","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T16:22:18","slug":"bracing-for-impact-series-returns-in-person-with-future-of-ai-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2022\/11\/04\/bracing-for-impact-series-returns-in-person-with-future-of-ai-event\/","title":{"rendered":"Bracing for Impact series returns in-person with 'Future of AI' event"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ip-osgoode-reichman-university-and-microsoft-announce-the-return-of-bracing-for-impact-in-person-events-for-the-first-time-since-2019\">IP Osgoode, Reichman University and Microsoft announce the return of Bracing for Impact in-person events for the first time since 2019.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s conference theme is \u201cThe Future of AI for Society.\u201d Bracing for Impact 2022 will run from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on <strong>Nov. 9 <\/strong>at <strong>Osgoode Hall Law School<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the day, three panels \u2013 each an hour in length \u2013 will examine the burgeoning roles of artificial intelligence in our daily lives. Areas of focus include: AI in the urban development of smart cities, AI in legal practice and the importance of legal data, and AI in healthcare. These panels are followed by the launch of the ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Society and the award ceremony for the IP Osgoode David Vaver Medal of Excellence in Intellectual Property, which annually recognizes one graduating Osgoode student\u2019s exceptional achievements in intellectual property law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more panel details, including a full list of guest speakers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iposgoode.ca\/events\/upcoming-events\/\">click here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between the panels are two intermissions \u2013 during which attendees will have an opportunity to meet and greet SPOT, the famous AI robot dog from Boston Dynamics \u2013 as well as a lunch break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lior Zemer, dean of the Harry Radzyner Law School at Reichman University, will be joined by Justice Marshall Rothstein, formerly of the Supreme Court of Canada, for a special luncheon keynote. Their collaborative presentation on \u201cghetto copyright\u201d demonstrates the failure of today\u2019s legal apparatus and contemporary academic discourse in protecting and advancing the property rights of Jewish prisoners who directly documented the horrors of the Holocaust. Zemer and Rothstein will spark a provocative debate over legal and moral rights in these works of art, music, drama and authorship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Admission is free and includes breakfast, lunch, refreshments throughout the day and a reception in the evening. The event will also be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=k1QIebVbIdg\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=k1QIebVbIdg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">livestreamed on the Osgoode Hall Law School YouTube<\/a> channel.
