Dear York community,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please join me in congratulating Alice Pitt<\/strong> on her appointment as the interim vice-president equity, people and culture for a term beginning April 1 to Dec. 31, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n

A long-serving and dedicated member of the York community, Alice joined York as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Education in 1995, where she demonstrated outstanding leadership and advocacy for accessible post-secondary education in various capacities including as associate dean (2002-07) and dean (2008-12) of the Faculty of Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her role as vice-provost academic, which she held from 2012 to 2020, she paved the way for the creation of innovative and accessible student programs. She was integral in facilitating the development of the University\u2019s Indigenous Framework, which identifies 10 core principles for action in advancing reconciliation, and to this day, continues to inform and shape the University\u2019s ongoing commitment to advancing decolonization and Indigenous teaching, research and scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alice has also played a prominent role in supporting the development of Markham Campus through her work as the senior advisor of the Markham Academic Strategic Planning Committee, where she led the creation of inclusive and accessible spaces and programming for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And, as a researcher, she has contributed significantly to feminist education particularly in regard to teacher education, classroom dynamics and curriculum. I am delighted to welcome Alice to this role where she will continue to provide exemplary leadership in advancing and advocating for equity, diversity and inclusion while enhancing the culture of ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will have an opportunity to properly acknowledge Sheila Cote-Meek<\/strong> and wish her well as she transitions to Brock University but for now, let me take this opportunity to express my appreciation and gratitude to her for the outstanding contributions she has made to York as our inaugural vice-president equity, people and culture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Membre d\u00e9vou\u00e9e et de longue date de la communaut\u00e9 de York, Mme Pitt est entr\u00e9e en 1995 \u00e0 la Facult\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9ducation en tant que professeure adjointe. Dans le cadre de ses fonctions, elle a fait preuve d\u2019un leadership exceptionnel et a d\u00e9fendu l\u2019accessibilit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e9ducation postsecondaire d\u2019abord \u00e0 titre de doyenne associ\u00e9e (de 2002 \u00e0 2007) puis de doyenne (de 2008 \u00e0 2012).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elle a ensuite occup\u00e9 le poste de vice-rectrice aux affaires acad\u00e9miques de 2012 \u00e0 2020 et a ouvert la voie \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation de programmes \u00e9tudiants innovants et accessibles. Mme Pitt a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le essentiel dans l\u2019\u00e9laboration du Cadre strat\u00e9gique autochtone pour l\u2019Universit\u00e9, qui d\u00e9finit 10 principes de base pour l\u2019action envers la r\u00e9conciliation. Ce cadre continue d\u2019orienter et de fa\u00e7onner l\u2019engagement de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 en faveur de la d\u00e9colonisation et de l\u2019enseignement, de la recherche et de l\u2019\u00e9rudition autochtones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elle a \u00e9galement jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le d\u00e9terminant dans le d\u00e9veloppement du campus Markham en tant que conseill\u00e8re principale du comit\u00e9 de planification strat\u00e9gique de Markham au sein duquel elle a dirig\u00e9 la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019espaces et de programmes inclusifs et accessibles pour la population \u00e9tudiante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Par ailleurs, elle a contribu\u00e9 de fa\u00e7on notable aux recherches sur l\u2019\u00e9ducation f\u00e9ministe, notamment en ce qui concerne la formation des enseignants, les dynamiques en salle de classe et le programme d\u2019\u00e9tudes. Je suis ravie de l\u2019accueillir dans ce r\u00f4le o\u00f9 elle continuera \u00e0 fournir un leadership exemplaire pour faire avancer et revendiquer l\u2019\u00e9quit\u00e9, la diversit\u00e9 et l\u2019inclusion tout en renfor\u00e7ant la culture de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
