{"id":342038,"date":"2023-09-29T13:59:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-29T18:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/?p=342038"},"modified":"2025-04-02T12:36:36","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T16:36:36","slug":"covid-19-and-respiratory-viruses-what-to-know-on-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2023\/09\/29\/covid-19-and-respiratory-viruses-what-to-know-on-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 and respiratory viruses: what to know on campus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The risks for respiratory illness such as COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) increase as we move into fall and indoor spaces.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is an overview of current public health guidelines and available resources to make this transition safer for the York community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you are symptomatic or tested positive for COVID-19:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/community-people\/health-wellness-care\/health-programs-advice\/respiratory-viruses\/covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Toronto Public Health<\/a> recommends you stay home if you are sick or have symptoms of illness, even if your symptoms are mild.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anyone with new or worsening symptoms or who tests positive for COVID-19 should complete the provincial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/self-assessment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">self-assessment<\/a> and follow directions for self-isolation or self-monitoring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Affected faculty, staff or instructors should inform their manager or associate dean of their absence and follow regular sick leave processes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Close contact guidelines:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you were a close contact of somebody with COVID-19, please review Toronto Public Health\u2019s guidance page: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/community-people\/health-wellness-care\/health-programs-advice\/respiratory-viruses\/covid-19\/covid-19-what-you-should-do\/covid-19-what-to-do-if-you-are-a-close-contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">COVID-19: What to Do if You Are a Close Contact<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vaccination:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An updated COVID-19 vaccine has been approved by Health Canada. COVID-19 vaccination reduces the risk of severe illness, death and post-COVID-19 condition (\u201clong COVID\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/covid19.ontariohealth.ca\/app-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ontario Health COVID-19 Vaccination Portal<\/a> to book a vaccination appointment. York will share information about vaccination clinics taking place at 快播视频 campuses in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Health Canada <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/diseases\/coronavirus-disease-covid-19\/vaccines\/how-vaccinated.html#a13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recommends<\/a> an updated COVID-19 vaccine dose for those who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>had their last COVID-19 vaccine dose over six months ago;&nbsp;<strong>or<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>last had COVID-19 six months ago (whichever happened later).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rapid antigen tests:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>快播视频 has a limited supply of free rapid antigen test kits.
