The York-affiliated recipients are among the 83 new appointments to the Order of Canada announced by Governor General Mary Simon on June 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Order of Canada is one of the country\u2019s highest civilian honours, recognizing individuals whose service shapes Canadian society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
John Manley, committee member, honorary degree recipient<\/strong> David Alexander Jones, honorary degree recipient David Weisstub, former faculty member
Manley, a long-time member of the Schulich School of Business<\/a> Dean\u2019s Global Council and a 2016 honorary doctor of laws recipient<\/a>, was promoted to Companion of the Order of Canada after being named an Officer in 2009. During a 16-year tenure in Parliament, he served as Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, as well as Minister of Industry, Foreign Affairs and Finance. Manley has also chaired the boards of several major Canadian companies and led a national business association. He was appointed in recognition <\/a>of how he has \u201cbridged private, public and not-for-profit sectors, promoting diversity and inclusiveness in leadership while engaging on matters of public policy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

<\/strong>Jones, also known as David Butler-Jones, is a Canadian physician who served as Canada\u2019s first Chief Public Health Officer from 2004 to 2013. He was appointed as an Officer, according to the Governor General of Canada, in recognition of a career supporting and safeguarding Canadians\u2019 health through leadership roles in national, provincial and regional health organizations and initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/strong>Weisstub, is a legal scholar who served for 19 years on the faculty of Osgoode Hall Law School<\/a> at 快播视频, where he taught law and mental health. He was appointed as an Officer in recognition of his leadership in the field, which has included serving as the founder and honourary life president of the International Academy of Law and Mental Health. He has also been a sought-after consultant in human rights, bioethics and mental competency for more than five decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
