{"id":398887,"date":"2025-09-10T14:49:41","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T18:49:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/?p=398887"},"modified":"2025-09-11T09:43:26","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T13:43:26","slug":"schulich-execed-launches-leadership-program-for-survivors-of-intimate-partner-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2025\/09\/10\/schulich-execed-launches-leadership-program-for-survivors-of-intimate-partner-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"Schulich ExecEd launches leadership program for survivors of intimate partner violence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">快播视频\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/execed.schulich.yorku.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Schulich ExecEd<\/a>, York Regional Police (YRP) and the York Region Centre for Community Safety 快播视频 (YRCCS) partnered on a four-part program to help survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) rebuild their lives.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hosted by Schulich ExecEd, the Women\u2019s Leadership and Empowerment Series is a collaboration that brings together the strengths of three community partners to support survivors of intimate partner violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first iteration of the series occurred this summer, and involved YRCCS offering local support and survivor advocacy; Schulich ExecEd providing professional development and leadership education; and YRP contributing insights from law enforcement and public safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By integrating emotional, educational and practical resources, the four-part program helps participants regain confidence, develop leadership skills and achieve personal and professional growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSurvivors of IPV have often lived in a climate of fear, shame, coercive control and devaluation,\u201d says Jaspreet Gill, executive director of YRCCS. \u201cMany are robbed of hope. The goal of this program is to help them reclaim what was taken \u2013 to restore hope for a better future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis program has been thoughtfully designed to help survivors regain their voice and confidence, sharpen their existing skills and learn new ones as they navigate the journey of healing,\u201d adds YRP Chief Jim MacSween. \u201cFor many, this includes rejoining the workforce after some time away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schulich ExecEd\u2019s role in the series is to provide leadership training and professional development in a safe, inclusive environment, so survivors can develop new skills to pursue employment opportunities. The program includes four interactive workshop modules \u2013 led by ExecEd faculty and titled Self and Leadership Type, The Power of Positivity, Women Empowerment and Career Future Proofing \u2013 that allow for group learning and peer support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ExecEd's contribution draws on its longstanding commitment to women\u2019s leadership and workforce development. \u201cWe lead many initiatives focused on supporting women, enhancing their well-being and enabling them to thrive in the workforce,\u201d says <strong>Rami Mayer<\/strong>, executive director of Schulich ExecEd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those initiatives include the Sister2Sister Advanced Leadership Program, which has helped 75 immigrant and refugee women earn certifications, receive coaching and complete paid internships; a mini-MBA for Indigenous women, which has offered business and policy training with community-focused projects; and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayer sees this latest endeavour as a catalyst for personal and community transformation. \u201cSchulich ExecEd is committed to empowering individuals through professional development education,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nine participants have completed the Women\u2019s Leadership and Empowerment Series successfully and were awarded certificates at a special ceremony in August.
