Vic Fedeli, Ontario\u2019s minister of economic development, job creation and trade, described the appointment as timely, stating it \u201ccomes at a turning point in Ontario\u2019s innovation history, where renewed vision and focused determination will prove vital to keep the province\u2019s economy competitive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A leader and expert in intellectual property (IP), emerging technologies, including AI, and innovation ecosystems, D\u2019Agostino will work to advance OCI\u2019s mission to unite industry, academia and government partners to invest in research and development, technology development and commercialization opportunities that benefit Ontarians. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am so grateful for this incredible honour and look forward to working with the amazing team at OCI to boost the innovation ecosystem and support homegrown, local companies across our province,\u201d says D'Agostino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is the founder and director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/osgoode\/ip-innovation-clinic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IP Innovation Clinic<\/a>, Canada\u2019s largest pro bono IP clinic, and Osgoode Hall Law School\u2019s Intellectual Property Law &amp; Technology Intensive Program. She is also the founding director of IP Osgoode, a program and research centre at Osgoode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, D\u2019Agostino serves as scientific director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/research\/connected-minds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Connected Minds<\/a> initiative \u2013 a $318-million program funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund and is a Tier 1 York Research Chair in Intellectual Property, Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPina brings extraordinary vision and leadership that will help guide OCI into its next chapter,\u201d says Claudia Krywiak, president and CEO of OCI. \u201cThis is an exciting moment for our organization, our ecosystem and Ontario\u2019s innovation economy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond her academic and research leadership, D\u2019Agostino is the founding Chair of the Alectra Green Energy &amp; Technology Centre and serves on the board of Alectra Inc. She is a senior fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation and sits on the art advisory committee at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, having previously served on its board of trustees from 2017-20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her contributions have earned numerous accolades, including being named one of Canada\u2019s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers by <em>Canadian Lawyer<\/em> magazine, receiving the Government of Ontario\u2019s Minister\u2019s Award of Excellence in Innovation and Entrepreneurship and being recognized as the Canadian Italian Business &amp; Professional Association\u2019s 2024 Woman of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>With files from the IP Innovation Clinic<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a id=\"_msocom_1\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With a distinguished career in law, intellectual property, AI, emerging technologies and governance, Professor Pina D\u2019Agostino steps into a groundbreaking leadership role.
