{"id":401153,"date":"2025-11-07T14:35:52","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T19:35:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/?p=401153"},"modified":"2025-11-07T16:44:41","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T21:44:41","slug":"york-university-accelerates-climate-action-in-2025-sustainability-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2025\/11\/07\/york-university-accelerates-climate-action-in-2025-sustainability-report\/","title":{"rendered":"快播视频 highlights climate action in 2025 sustainability report\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">York has fast-tracked its climate goals, deepened its commitment to equity and expanded global partnerships \u2013 key highlights in the University\u2019s 2025 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) report titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/sustainability\/reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Positive Change for a Sustainable Future<\/em><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\"This report&nbsp;is a powerful reflection of our institution\u2019s shared commitment to a better future \u2013 showcasing the incredible work happening across operations, curriculum and research,\" says <strong>Alice Hovorka<\/strong>, Chair of York's Sustainability Taskforce and dean of the <a href=\"https:\/\/euc.yorku.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Faculty of Environmental &amp; Urban Change<\/a>. \"It represents a remarkable collective effort, and yet it\u2019s only a snapshot of the ongoing, deeply embedded sustainability work taking place every day across our&nbsp;community.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>York has accelerated its net-zero emissions target by a full decade, now aiming for 2040. In a major step forward, the University became the first post-secondary institution in Ontario to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2024\/10\/29\/york-university-powers-up-first-electric-buses-in-ontario-post-secondary-sector\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deploy electric buses<\/a>, enhancing sustainable transportation between campuses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/sustainability\/reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"523\" height=\"684\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2025\/11\/Positive-Change-for-a-Sustainable-Future.jpg\" alt=\"Positive Change for a Sustainable Future\" class=\"wp-image-401188\" style=\"width:391px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2025\/11\/Positive-Change-for-a-Sustainable-Future.jpg 523w, https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/889\/2025\/11\/Positive-Change-for-a-Sustainable-Future-306x400.jpg 306w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 523px) 100vw, 523px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Positive Change for a Sustainable Future<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The University also launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2024\/11\/06\/yorks-new-sustainability-strategy-outlines-institutional-plan-for-a-greener-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new sustainability strategy<\/a> in November 2024. Shaped by broad community consultation, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/sustainability\/reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Positive Change: Connecting People, Planet and Purpose<\/a><\/em> outlines specific, measurable actions to embed sustainability across York\u2019s operations and culture.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>York earned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2024\/10\/01\/york-earns-sustainability-medal-ahead-of-campus-sustainability-month-events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gold accreditation<\/a> from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education's (AASHE's) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment &amp; Rating System, placing it among an elite group of institutions demonstrating leadership in sustainability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AASHE also designated York as a Centre for Sustainability Across the Curriculum for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/unsdgs\/toolkit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SDGs-in-the-Classroom Toolkit<\/a> \u2013 a resource developed to help educators embed SDGs into their teaching.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Progress on SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth is reflected in 70 per cent of undergrad programs offering a co-op option, connecting students with real-world learning opportunities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>York\u2019s global impact continues to grow; the University ranked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2024\/06\/12\/york-university-rises-to-top-35-globally-in-times-higher-education-impact-rankings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">among the top 35 institutions worldwide<\/a> in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Research excellence at York is underscored by $120.4 million in externally sponsored funding and $47 million in tri-council research grants. Additionally, more than 59 per cent of York\u2019s research publications were co-authored internationally, reflecting the University\u2019s global reach and collaborative efforts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the 2024-25 academic year, York earned the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2024\/10\/08\/york-university-earns-wwf-canada-living-campus-designation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Living Campus certification<\/a> from World Wildlife Fund Canada and was also selected from over 1,700 United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) member institutions as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2025\/01\/29\/york-university-to-lead-international-efforts-in-reducing-inequality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UNAI Hub Chair for Sustainable Development Goal 10 \u2013 Reducing Inequality<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report also highlights the launch of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2024\/10\/21\/learn-about-yorks-new-well-being-strategy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">York\u2019s first well-being strategy and its signing of the Okanagan Charter<\/a>, reinforcing its commitment to health and wellness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>York introduced Canada\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2024\/08\/23\/york-university-announces-first-of-its-kind-phd-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first PhD in disaster and emergency management<\/a>, along with new micro-credentials in biotechnology and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2024\/07\/19\/new-funding-supports-training-in-vaccine-production-at-york-u\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vaccine production<\/a> \u2013 advancing innovation for healthier communities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2025 report demonstrates York\u2019s leadership in sustainability through a comprehensive, whole-institution strategy. This approach fully integrates the SDGs across campus operations, academic curricula and research priorities, transforming the University into a living lab to test and implement tangible
