The certificate would provide a focus on a specific skill set with an aging knowledge base to provide leadership and management on aging related initiatives such as individuals aging at home and provision of respite and education to caregivers with a focus on prevention and proactive health care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Graceful Aging Alliance Steering Committee (now YU-CARE) proposed to implement a&nbsp;strategic plan to advance the profile of aging research and curriculum development and delivery within the Faculty of Health by developing and implementing a Faculty Based Research Centre, that is today\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>Y<\/strong>ork&nbsp;<strong>U<\/strong>niversity&nbsp;<strong>C<\/strong>entre for&nbsp;<strong>A<\/strong>ging&nbsp;<strong>R<\/strong>esearch and&nbsp;<strong>E<\/strong>ducation (YU-CARE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button bg-primary-2 text-white rounded-0 learnmore-block p-2\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-color has-background no-border-radius\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yu-care\/news\/\" style=\"background-color:#810001;color:#ffffff\"> Latest News  <i class=\"fas fa-chevron-right small pl-2\"><\/i><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group grey-bg-block has-very-light-gray-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"border-top pt-2 wp-block-heading\">2011 <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">March<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A Blue Sky Curriculum Development Day was held with academics and key stakeholders to determine the development of content and learning objectives for a certificate in aging.The following content and learning objectives were proposed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Offer foundational and detailed knowledge of aging (through an interdisciplinary and cultural view with a focus on vulnerable populations)<\/li><li>Provide practicum experience (for students to develop interpersonal skills, empathy, and compassion)<\/li><li>Generate research experience to cultivate problem solving skills<\/li><li>Develop a course to prepare students with skills to challenge the status quo (leadership)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">October<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>13 academics and researchers across Ontario met to determine knowledge gaps and research needs to conceptualize graceful aging. Academics and researchers prioritized the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Gain a greater understanding of the optimal time to intervene and apply appropriate strategies (when, how to adapt, lifespan, critical windows, technology, exercise)<ul><li>Provide and use auditory technologies for environmental support to stay focused<\/li><li>Use internal strategies to improve cognitive performance<\/li><li>Design environments to delay the onset of disability<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Understand the relationship between cognitive, physical and emotional function through basic research<\/li><li>Integrate and transform formal and informal healthcare systems and social care<\/li><li>Adapt and implement other successful health care models<\/li><li>Provide comprehensive prevention throughout the life course<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While raising the profile of aging research, researchers and academics recognized an imminent need for specialized aging education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"border-top pt-2 wp-block-heading\">2008 <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Faculty of Health hosted a lively dialogue on June 24th 2008 on the topic of Graceful Aging. Attended by researchers from Health, as well as other Faculties on campus, and by key external guests, the event sought to build a shared view of where 快播视频 and its partners collectively excel now in relation to Graceful Aging, and what we might achieve if we chose to work together. We were fortunate to have Maurice French, a motivational speaker and true example of aging gracefully, share his&nbsp;thoughts with the group. The outcome of this event was the development of our shared vision, mission, goals and activities as outlined on this web page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">September<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>CIHR sponsored a caf\u00e9 scientifique to debate successful aging outside of academia and into the public realm. This event propelled the exchange of ideas, increased the public\u2019s exposure to current debates in gerontological research and emphasized the need to frame aging positively.
