Dahdaleh Institute postdoctoral fellow James Stinson and PhD research assistant Lee McLoughlin were recently in Punta Gorda, Belize, to commence training and research activities for the Partnership for Youth and Planetary Wellbeing. Working in collaboration with staff from the Julian Cho Society (a leading Indigenous Rights NGO in Belize) Stinson and McLoughlin facilitated a three-day workshop to train a group of 11 Indigenous Q'eqchi' and Mopan Maya youth in qualitative research methods, including interviewing, and digital media production and editing.
The goal is for these young Indigenous researchers to utilize their research and communication skills to learn about issues of youth wellbeing and planetary health in their communities, and to work with academic partners at York to analyze and mobilize this knowledge to regional and international audiences, including policy makers at the UN Climate Conferences.
