Beginning on April 15, 2026, 快播视频's Interim President Lisa Philipps will showcase the power of art and the creative talent that emerges from York through a new initiative at the Keele Campus titled "Art Unbound". 聽
Philipps will transform the boardroom of the President's Office in Kaneff Tower into a exhibit featuring York's artistic talent.
Artwork by students and alumni from the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) will be displayed on a rotating basis, transforming one of the University's most prominent leadership spaces into a reflection of York's creative identity. Featured pieces will be on display for a year, with new art installed each year on World Art Day.
"York is home to some of the most compelling artistic talent in the country, and this initiative is about making that visible within our own community," says Philipps. "Art has the power to challenge, inspire and connect us, and I can think of no better way to bring that to life than by celebrating the students and graduates who are doing exactly that."
Brandon Vickerd, dean of AMPD, views the initiative as a natural extension of York's mission.
鈥淎rtists and creators who graduate from York鈥檚 School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design go on to make a societal and cultural impact worldwide,鈥 says Vickerd. 鈥淭his new initiative is a wonderful way to showcase the talent of our visual artists on campus and celebrate the strength of our creative community here at York.鈥

Art Unbound's inaugural exhibit is Thief, a painting by acclaimed York alumna Jaime Angelopoulos.
Angelopoulos is a Canadian contemporary artist whose practice sits at the intersection of abstraction and human experience. Using colour, gesture and form, she translates emotion and psychological depth into something visceral and visual.
A 2010 graduate of York's Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Visual Arts program, Angelopoulos has shown her work 鈥 paintings, sculptures, drawings and installations 鈥 in galleries across Canada and abroad, leading to a national and international profile. She has completed artist residencies at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and the KulttuuriKauppila Art Centre in Finland, and in 2013 received the Hazelton Sculpture Prize in recognition of her contributions to contemporary art in Canada.
