Specialized Honours Streams

In the Specialized Honours program, students choose a stream and complete 15 credits of stream-specific electives to build advanced knowledge.

Whether you have already chosen a stream or are still exploring your options, reviewing the stream descriptions and electives can help you plan your courses.

Explore each stream to understand its focus and elective course options:

  • Global e-Health: Explore how digital health tools (such as artificial intelligence) are changing the way health care is delivered around the world, and how technology can improve access to care and health services in both local and global contexts.
  • Global Health and the Environment: Explore how ecological determinants like climate change, pollution, urban development, and sustainability affect health and health equity.
  • Global Health Law, Policy, and Governance: Explore how laws, policies, and health systems shape health outcomes around the world, and how political, economic, and social factors influence global health policy, management, and systems.
  • Health Promotion and Disease Prevention: Explore interdisciplinary approaches to promoting health and preventing disease at individual, community, and population levels, and how behavioural, social, and structural factors influence health equity.
  • Global Mental Health: Explores how cultural, social, and individual factors influence population mental health, with a focus on mental health systems, access to care, and health equity in global contexts.

Once you have completed all required core courses and stream electives, you will finish your Specialized Honours degree with an integrated practicum and capstone sequence that brings your learning into real-world global health settings. Learn more about the Global Health Practicum.

Learn more about our students' practicum experiences:

As part of her Global Health degree, Giovanna Batti completed her practicum working on the global health team at  , contributing to their efforts to address the global challenge of Tuberculosis. Giovanna shares her experience.

Spaces in stream electives are limited, especially in the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention concentration. Seats are given to our students on a first come-first serve basis. You may contact the offering department to request a waitlist spot, but you are strongly encouraged to enrol in an alternative approved stream elective as a backup.

No, you must be registered in the Specialized Honours, have selected a concentration, and completed all your core and stream electives.
